Just finished watching after I got home and a few observations:
1) Baines did well first half and had a nightmare second half. HOWEVER, many of you nailed it. When he got the ball, he absolutely had NO ONE showing for it. NO ONE. I expect at an international level, that basic ideas like this would be covered. Apparently not. Defensively though, he could have done a lot better in the second half. I'll just chalk it up to either laziness or exhaustion on the part of the midfield.
2) I honestly didn't know that Milner was on the pitch until minute 20. Can you believe that? Minute 20 and I hear Milner's name. Absolutely, positively, anonymous. To be fair, he's a winger, not a center of the park kind of guy so I think it was bit over his head.
3) Now you see why I still laugh when I say that Manchester United paid 18M for Michael Carrick.
4) That was one of the best performances I've seen by Mexico in a long long time and yes, I hate saying that but what do you know, CONCACAF football isn't near as bad as many might believe. If they could finish, it might have been a totally different game. And they did a lot of this without their star Guardado as well as Ochoa in the goal. They also had Osorio in back instead of Magaillon. Mexico could go quite a way in this World Cup. Yeah, I know that Terry, Cole, etc... were on the sidelines but still.
5) Crouch continues to impress at the international level.
