In other news, Danny Welbeck is a complate fruad of a footballer and I hate him beyond rational thinking, everytime he plays I want to see him break his leg.

What does that even mean? The score is the only important stat.
I rag a lot England but with a team of kids it was really refreshing to see them hungry to play.
I guess there are two camps of England haters. Those who hate all they represent with these nob players and long for an exciting England to emerge, and those who just hate England regardless.
If England take some fresh players to the Euros and play with some excitement, I'll happily get behind the team.
If they take the same old guard and play the most boring style again I'll slate them. Ho hum.

I sometimes hate England. Sometimes love them. sometimes indifferent. That's not racist as I don't hate the English as a race
I found the performnce yesterday inept for the most part. Spain didn't score but that was more to do with their lack of pace and precision in the final third than with any brilliant defending. They defended resolutely but not particularly well imo. every time their players received the ball they generally had acres of space and two or three options for a pass. The complete opposite was generally the case when we had the ball. no one moving to recieve and even when there were some options we were so slow to offload that the opportunity was lost. At one point in the first half Parker passed the ball back to Jags who passed it sideways to Lescott, who in turn passed it sideways to Cole. The crowd applauded coz they were so starved of any coherent passing movement.
The second half was a lot batter than the first to be fair. Though that's not saying much.
If anyone thinks that we can progress through an international tournament playing like that, well......

I lack any interest or passion for an England football side that contains arrogant feckwits like JT and Ashley Cole. Had no interest in them for many years now.
However last nights team, with its mixture of youth(Jack, Phil Jones etc) and decent honest pros(Parker,Jags etc) was hopefully the first step in restoring my enjoyment and passion for watching my national team.

Think people read too much into the Spain game, and wanted more out of it. If we'd have lost, its expected and back to the drawing board. We won, so now most people complain about how we won and throw up stats to say "its meaningless, lucky, boring etc".
There seems to be more people upset that we dont play like Spain or Holland or France. Well...we never have and never will do. If Mourinho managed England we'd still be labelled boring, cynical, defensive..but if the result is there, that's all that matters.
We played to our strengths against Spain. Defence and set-pieces. Italy did that for years with a winning mentality to boot and won a fair few World Cups. Not saying thats gonna be us, but its a valid argument for all the backlash that's happened after the match last night.
A big problem with the national team is that lack of the winning mentality. Players have been dropped, recalled, not played, played out of position to accommodate "star" names etc and we've never built a footballing foundation over a number of years. A large chunk of those players doubt themselves and dont have the will to win be in playing silky football, ala Spain, or doing it the dirty way like Italy.
Id also say, we choke big time at tournaments because we dont want to lose..and lose anyway. That mentality changes despite how the team plays, it'll work.
Also, the big test isnt against the better sides, but battering the lesser sides. Champagne footy against them and win, do what you can to win against the better sides.
