What an odd thing to decree someone you havnt met as.

Yes I would refer him as son as possible, hope England he smashed as a result.

More your that he is "nicest" as being odd.

Do i want our starting 20 year old centre back playing deep into the summer in a mickey mouse tournament - no. He no doubt will be calle dup to the Euros next year as well so two full years without a break in the summer.

So yeah i hope he pulls a hammy that rules out of this tournament.

agree it is hard to really know anyone from just interviews but in them he comes across as a mature and pleasant lad plus his charity work off the field seems genuine and heartfelt.

Even if England get to the final the competition ends June 30th, given he had 3 months off with his ankle injury that surely should not be too taxing on him. There is a small added increase in risk of him getting a serious injury but short of placing him in cotton wool there is always a risk. On the plus side learning to deal with pressure/different players/playing styles/climates will surely help in his development both as a person and on the field.

It might be a mickey mouse competition to you but he has been working towards it for two years now and was clearly very much looking forward to it. He is now going to miss at least two games with the concussion and quite possibly more as Southgate might not want to disrupt a settled CB pairing.

Mate you make assumptions again 1) He prob is nice, but you dont know, 2) You dont know if he is looking forward to it. Barkley might be his best mate and he might want to go on Hols with him, no one knows. So its besides the point.

An injury is unforgivable of a long term severity, im more concerned about fatique holisiticaly. Look at how a summer of getting smashed by the rest of world football ruined Barkleys season, form and development this year. My concern the same will happen with Stones.

Im not wholly picking on team GB here either, taking youngseters and especially everton youngsters away during the summer i am wholly against. It screws up there development = becuase they need to rest and reflect. The seniors i could understand but this laugh fest - is ridiculous.

Kane and Stomes willbe flogged this summer and next, then slated by the press and Stones on here, the same way Barkley has.

Almsot every interview he has given, including Everton ones, he has mentioned how much he wants to be part of the England team, both U21 and senior - he gave this one only the other week, think after the precomp friendly at his old club.

Do you want to be as important for England as players like Rio Ferdinand and John Terry? Do you see yourself as an England centre-back for the long-term?
Oh definitely. I’d love to, yeah. I think, without being arrogant or anything about it, I’d love to set the mark and try and be as good as them and hopefully do well for England. I’ve got to do that at Everton first to get picked. If I achieve anything like they have it’d be beyond anything I could ever imagine. I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but yeah that’d be great.

he might be lying but he could have pulled out if he had wanted to (other U21 eligible players have done) or got Martinez to ask for him to be taken out (which appeared to happen with Barkley).

You seen to want the best for him but don't understand how you can equate that with stopping him from doing something he appears to have wanted to do for two years, by getting a painful injury no less.

Anyway we've probably got off topic enough, agree to disagree?

You really aren't. A hamstring tear doesn't just go away and is an easy fix, it takes time for the tissue to repair and remodel, and due to the scarring there's an increased propensity for it to happen again. All it would take is for a bit of bad luck with a run of hamstring injuries to turn him into a crock.

Holisticaly mate in the Cicley Saunders definiton of the word.

Berahino has been sent home early due to a knee injury. I can't help but be cynical and think this is because a club has come in with a huge bid for him but they've insisted they don't want him taking part in the tournament as part of the deal going through.

@england: U21s line-up v Portugal: Butland (c), Jenkinson, Moore, Gibson, Garbutt, Ward-Prowse, Carroll, Chalobah, Redmond, Kane, Lingard. #EngvPor

@england: U21s subs: Forster-Caskey, Pritchard, Bond, Bettinelli, Keane, Lingard, Ings, Hughes, Chambers, Targett, Loftus-Cheek. #EngvPor

@Jack_Gaughan: Southgate says both Berahino and Stones were in tears after being ruled out of the Under 21s.
:(

Southgate speaks to BT1 about Berahino’s injury and more: “He felt a knee injury two days ago. He was still able to train yesterday but it didn’t feel right so we scanned it. It will probably keep him out for about three weeks. People who say players don’t care about playing for England but I’ve had two players [Berahino and Stones] in tears this week because they’ve been ruled out.

Looking forward to seeing big Willy Carvalho. If he plays well in this tournament maybe his move to Arsenal that collapsed last season might get revived.
