England v Australia - THE ASHES

Exciting stuff but this will sound the death rattle for test cricket. Players play too much and the whole mentality seems to be 'blow it' if any side bats to an unbeatable looking total. Seriously 2 and 3 day tests is just a joke.

I agree to an extent but equally I disagree. Maybe test cricket as we've known will cease to exist because it will morph to meet the game as it is.

For that reason I think in the foreseeable future they'll begin to introduce four day tests where we will still get some of the longevity.

Yet as batsman become more 'reckless' (or as some say it, play towards T20 or ODI style), we will not have the whole 'will it make five' debate.

As I mentioned earlier, personally I still think there's a lot of need for a good test batsman. Some of the batting of late has been shockingly bad.

It may be more exciting for the audience to watch with the twist and turns, but deep down we all know it's actually a poor example of cricket.

In some aspects this could revitalise test cricket as it's exciting; it's just now what we know and love. But that's how times changes I guess.

With regards to this Ashes...

I honestly do not think that the current Australia's bowling attack are anything spectacular (overall), so a good top order and we could succeed.

Yes they've got some good strike bowlers, but they bleed runs and there's too many inconsistencies. Think back ten or even five years.

If we weren't equally shocking at batting as we can be, then this would be there for the taking. Bat them all day and then bowl them out.

When I was watching cricket regularly back in England (20 odd years ago), Trent Bridge always had a bit for the bowlers. No idea if that's true now because back then, Edgbaston was generally a high scoring track.

Test cricket 2015 - blink and you miss it.

Good reaction from England to the defeat at Lords. Which begs the question, how will Australia react to this ? With Anderson out and the Ashes at stake a favourable response is likely from them to take it to a series decider at the Oval.

Back in the mid-80s when Hadlee and Rice were rampant on it, the Trent Bridge pitch was greener than a snooker table. Not so now.

There does seem to be something missing though about England's thumping Test victory.

Oh yes, that utter knob KP isn't piping up about how crap England are in his absence.:bye::bye:
