Reports on social media site Twitter and on Spanish television claim that Everton could be set to play Champions League football after UEFA began investigations into two Ukrainian clubs.
Fans of Everton and Spanish side Sevilla erupted with excitement on Monday morning after rumours were widespread on social media and Spanish television regarding the imposed investigation on Dnipro and Shakhtar Donetsk.
Ukraine has two coefficients but it is claimed that an investigation into both could see them removed from next season's Champions League tournament.
Whilst there is no confirmation of this or why they are to be investigated, Everton and Sevilla fans are growing in anticipation about the report, with many saying both will replace the Ukraine duo.
Other reports on Spanish television claim that due to the crisis in Ukraine, the two clubs could be deemed unsafe to host European games.
Earlier in May, governing body UEFA had informed the Ukrainian football federation that any games under the auspices of UEFA must be played in either Kyiv or Lviv due to the current situation in the country.
Everton, under the guidance of Roberto Martinez finished fifth behind Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Whilst, Sevilla turned their league attentions to the Europa League, which they won, beating Benfica in the final on penalties in Turin.
