European Championships, Germany 2024

I know there'll probably be a forum created to talk about the games starting next month, but thought I'd post the schedules for it now and maybe start a pre-tournament discussion.

As you can see, it starts off with a Scotland loss!

I don't see any hot favourite to win it and it looks very open, although I'd maybe go for France.

England will go close again I think.

Group B will be the media's designated group of death with Italy, Spain and Croatia.

Everton-wise there'll be pretty limited involvement outside of Pickford and Mykolenko if Branthwaite (hopefully) isn't called upon.
Isn't Mykolenko a long term injury?

Dyche said he was out long term.

I cant believe it'll be that bad given he played on for about 7 minutes after until HT against Liverpool. Adrenaline would;t be enough to mask the pain of a bad tear, IMO.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't go to the Euros.

🤞🏻 he doesn't.

England will probably meet France in the semis. Can’t see them winning that. Could imagine a repeat of the 2016 final this time. Could see Germany getting to the semis despite all the negativity around them at the moment. With home advantage they might even go further than that
I've written the Germans off for the last five years and more, but there are definite stirrings of a reawakening... they are under-17 European and world champions, their clubs have been highly competitive in Europe this season, Bayer Leverkusen are cutting a swathe through all-comers (home and abroad), the complacency of the late-era Löw days has been extinguished, Florian Wirtz is the next big thing, Toni Kroos is on a lap of honour, and a young coach has committed to the cause... They are definitely brewing something here...and it's not beer.

I think home euphoria - if they start well - will bring them far.

Other than that, I see France as the best squad, with Spain and England as threats. Portugal and Holland should be competitive.

Looking forward to seeing Holland with Liverpool's three in the team being humiliated.

Van Dijk will be throwing them all under the bus after his now customary poor performances, no doubt.

England should make the last eight with some comfort - if they win their group they will likely play Poland/Austria, Ukraine/Romania, or Turkey/Czech Republic. I doubt any of those would be clinical enough to put them out. These are not Hagi or Nedved-era sides. However, then it gets more testing.

The last eight match is likely to be against Croatia/Italy or Hungary/Switzerland. Technically, it could also be against Germany or Spain if they finish runners-up in their groups (possible). I don't think I'd fancy England against the Croats - who will raise their game and have no fear of England. Italy are Italy. They tend to win against England when it counts - but they are no great shakes. England should get through...but...

If they do, they are all set then for a clash with Belgium or France, in all likelihood.

And, if they buck their historical trend and pull off the win, it'll be Germany, Spain, Holland, or Portugal, in all likelihood, lying in wait here in Berlin.

Now, my take is that England could win ANY of those match-ups. They would be highly competitive. But I don't see them winning three of those consecutively. And that's what they have to do to win this tournament.

Of course, the draw could open up - but it could have some nasty surprises too if Germany fall into their half, complicating the last 16 match.

Nevertheless, England are one of the favourites. Time for their players to show up.

Almost all of them champions league winners.
Won nothing.

They'll [Poor language removed] the bed in the quarters. Some will blame black players missing pens, others will blame post-brexit passport controls.
They played in an era when there was some outstanding national teams. I don’t think there is one around currently. Hence me thinking this is more of a chance of success for England.

Either way I’m not arsed, probably get more satisfaction out of seeing them fail than win.

In 2004 and 2006 I would argue there wasn’t an outstanding team. England underachieved in those two tournaments IMO

Kane
Bellingham
Foden
Saka
Rice
Pickford
Branthwaite 😊

England’s best chance of winning something in my lifetime I think.
And hopefully backed up by players like Palmer, Watkins, Bowen and Gordon (IDGAF).

The negative side is obviously Southgate, No obvious left back (Should take Mitchell imo.) and a probable centre back pairing of McGuire and Dunk.
