Moyes begins his second reign the same as the first, with a victory buoyed by a fired up Goodison, written in the stars

BTW it’s been slightly longer between his last and return game as it is between his first spell in charge

1st game - March 16th 2002
Last game - May 19th 2013

Time span - 11 years, 2 months, 3 days

Return game - January 15th 2025

Time span - 11 years, 7 months, 27 days

I like that us and West Ham both get to try out our new managers against this decent Villa side.

Solid test. I can see an unexpected, scrappy win to get the ball rolling.

The real question is who will be our Unsworth, scoring in the first 30 seconds?

Not an easy first game. Still expecting a tough 5 months unless we bring some faces in. I rate Moyes enough to get us clear of trouble but not with this team alone. Hopefully he gets to bring some players in this month.

This is a tough game for us. A draw is a good result, a score draw is a very good result, a win would be the dream start. I don’t expect David Moyes to come in and immediately make the players we currently have into a top six side, I do expect him to come in and set the team up to try and score and to try and win. We will lose games with this strategy but we will also win games. The next big test for us as a club is to see who we get in over this window, hopefully we are a more attractive proposition to forwards now that Sean Dyche has gone. We need a forward looking midfielder and a right winger to balance up the team. It will be interesting to see how David Moyes goes about addressing our obvious weaknesses.
