That was poor performance from every player with the exception of Howard, Donovan, and Osman.

It's frustrating how in all other games that Saha has been the most forward player on the side, he has played like a support striker without the running. In this game we for once actually needed him to do that but he decided to play farther up the pitch. ?? I don't get it. The game ended when Osman went off, he was the only player that made 4 4 2 workable in this game. Strac had somewhat decent game, he had few nice flicks and back heels but stood no chance against Cahill. He is desperately lacking pace. At least with Strac on the field we have a chance of retaining possession with hoofballs. Baines was really unfortunate with his free kick but we honestly deserved to lose 2-0.

I think this is worst performance I've seen from Cahill. How does he manage to do all that running yet never get the ball? It was like having ten players on the pitch.

My biggest disappointment is that we were playing with a much more attacking formation this game, granted with Neville in the middle, and now I fear it will be a very long time before we see two strikers on. Dammit why couldn't our injury crisis have waited till the next game?!

Really shocking to see the impact Jags injury had on the defence. I think Johnny and Distin are good cbs but Jags seems to lead the defence.

I just can't see 4-4-2 working if he persists on having two defenders playing both holding roles, not that you need two holding roles in a 4-4-2. I'd like to see something like this on Saturday, for both player fitness and for a bit of gametime in their positions. Also give bainsey a break.

Howard

Coleman Heitinga Distin Neville

Barkley Osman Fellaini Magaye

Donavon Anichebe

Donovan should be playing in his natural position, not being shoved outwide.

Is Coleman even fit enough to play? Don't think Osman will be back either.

Neville at LB is cringe worthy. And he's played a lot of minutes of late as well.

I think what I'm saying is, be prepared to see reserves due to Spurs next week and injuries. Bily might get game time, Mucha might see game time, and Barkley might FINALLY see game time. I think Saha finally needs to not play. Nows the time to do it.

Mucha
Hibbo - Heitinga - Distin - [Baines replacement? Do we have one?]
Drenthe [if no longer ill]/LD - Barkley - Fellaini - Gueye/Bily/LD
LD/reserve 2nd striker (Faddy? Vellios? Anichebe??)
Anyone but Saha

If Neville plays, he's Captain. If he doesn't play, I can see it going Baines' way.

I am seriously scared for us at Spurs. Scared.

We kicked off the first half with the ball being passed back to hibbert and him hoofing it down field. After about 3minutes I had Sussed out that the ball was getting caught in the wind and landing in our own half. Did we change our tactic? No, we just carried on hoofing. Second half we start hoofing, apart from the fluke goal the ball went straight through to their goalie or for a goal kick. It was obvious that I wasn't working. Did we change our tactic? No we just carried on hoofing.

It doesn't matter what formation he puts out, moyes doesn't know how to play football. This is obvious if you have watched everton for the last 10 years. Under 30k on the gate tonight, I think his shocking team selections and boring predictable tactics will have us down to 25k before the end of the season.

On second thought, reading RFUS's posts about 4-4-2 not working with our team (merit there), could do this:

Mucha
Hibbo - [reserve CB?] - Distin - Baines
Fellaini - Heitinga
Drenthe - Barkley - LD
Anyone but Saha

We need to dig into our defender reserves though.

it came down to coaching imo......****ty conditions for both teams meant it was imperative to try keep the ball and use as best as you could ....bolton did they mainly tried ball to feet when going forward we didnt coz we try get the ball to the front as quick as possible whcih means he spends to much time in the air

it was a clueless embarrassing performance from both team and coach

probably the worst thing about this result is that it wasn't that much of a shock, even with our decent mini run of results behind us we've still been crap and even worse to watch, west brom, blackburn and fulham away we won all three where we only deserved one draw, no starting striker has scored this season, top scorer has 3 goals, our keeper has managed to do what one of our centre forwards has been trying to do for a year, blame in my opinion falls completely and utterly at the managers feet, he has got to go now before we go down, neville, cahill, hibbert, straq should not be considered to play for the first team unless injuries determine otherwise yet 3 of them have more or less started week in week out for the whole of 2011, add that to the desperation long ball tactics, i could go on but whats the point, we're now even calling for anichebe to start as if he's our saviour or something, this time last year no one wanted him near the squad, just goes to show how far backwards we've gone....

OMG
Lame

Highlights;

The "Best Fan" competition.
Howard's goal
Donovan looking class
Rodwell looking pumped-up & boss
Baines looking ace
Not playing 451
Stracq's flick to Donovan

Er, that's it

EDIT: Hibbert having a shot on target. Nearly the riot that will destroy Goodison.

Moyes' post-game comments:

“We didn’t deserve to be in front,†said Moyes. “Bolton deserved to win the game. I’ve got no qualms with the result; you can’t perform like that and expect to win.

“The conditions weren’t good but both teams had to play in it. It’s a little bit easier to play away from home when it’s like that as you have to make a bit of play, but we didn’t make any play tonight and as I said, I’ve got no arguments with the result.

“It was a freak that we were 1-0 up. We’d have taken it and we should have gone on and done better but we couldn’t hold onto it after that.â€

“Give Bolton a bit of credit. They worked really hard to get the result, but we didn’t perform as well as we have been doing. Bolton stuck at it and got their rewards.â€

“We tried to go with two centre-forwards, if we hadn’t some might have questioned it. Apart from the goalkeeper and bits from Landon it was hard to say much positive.â€

Back to 4-5-1 lads - the safety blanket that refuses to die. Also find it odd he doesn't refer to Tim Howard by name. So mad he forgot?

To be fair to Moyes, he didn't make any excuses. I think we should credit him for playing two up front, it looks like he's been reading some of the forums and has responded to criticism. I still rate him quite highly as a manager and feel that he's working with one hand tied behind his back, plus the players on the pitch just didn't perform on the occasion. Kenwright and the Board should be the ones getting the slating, I doubt we'd play so much hoofball if we had the skill to play it to feet, but we haven't. Donovan and Drenthe are two of the very few players we have who can take a man on, and that's a scandalous state of affairs for the 'school of science'.

In an earlier post i stated that Howard, Baines, Distin and Donovan were the only ones worth their wage on the day, but i should have added Jagielka and Osman. In other words, we have some decent players, especially at the back, but play breaks down due to a lack of creativity and skill in midfield and a severe shortage of class up front. I've always admired Saha, and it's obvious he wants to do well, but i guess his golden days are over. He would still be effective as a substitute in a two-man strikeforce when we're chasing a game, but it doesn't look as if he's good enough to play the 90 minutes anymore. I feel sorry for Cahill, too, he's getting a lot of flak now on this forum. There's a guy who breathes Everton from every pore, but something's missing. I'd just love him to score, maybe the floodgates would open after that.

Totally agree, re the players anyhow. The trouble is, we haven't been able to play the ball to feet for many years, it was a major shortcoming a few years ago in the European campaigns. Having one or two playmakers like Arteta or Pienaar was never good enough, you can only play the ball to feet if the whole team is skilled in this, or at the very least the midfield and strikeforce. This is obviously a failing of the English game though: even the international squad suffers from a lack of this ability, and only recently has Capello realised the importance of it and tried to redress it. If i would make any criticism of Moyes it is that he can't be emphasising this enough in training. Perfecting this ability could transform our game.
