Almost winning every year then in that period, that's how the record is fckd, don't; remember them much apart from Clattenberg and McAllister derbies

Struggled against Owen and young Gerrard in the early 2000s. Then one left and they went more cosmopolitan with FSW bringing in more Spanish players so they took a couple of seasons to adapt to the intensity of the fixture.

Was some record in the 90s v them considering how bad some of those seasons became. Infact many of the results helped keep the team up. 4 points in 1994/95, same in 97/98. The "Spice Boys" always tended to bottle high pressure games in that era when you look at their cup record in those seasons.

Manager with worst record against them was Walter Smith. P 8, W1, D3, L4. However he's still the last one to win at the swamp infront of a live crowd and should've had a double that season but for the pathetic decision to disallow the goal when Westerveld hit it straight at Hutchinson.

There seemed to be a calmness to our support last year. The ground seemed to be loud but controlled, not like the frenzy we have whipped ourselves into going into Derbys of the past. In other Derbys the disappointment of having an early penalty overturned by VAR would have usually had us foaming at the mouth and losing our heads but this time we remained calm and just carried on. It transferred onto the pitch and I honestly think it showed in the players performance. More of the same needed tomorrow. No stupid early cards

The devil is in the detail.

On league games only(PL and DIvision 1 combined) we have 35 wins to their 34. They can’t overtake on league matches.

On all matches played between us at Goodison, it is 41 victories apiece but 2 of their victories include the Charity Shield in 1966 and the Screen Sport Super Cup of 85/86. How the venue was decided for these games that I don’t know.

They had won 17 league games at Goodison up until 1970(or in 50 odd playing years as league was suspended for 10 years due to 2 World Wars and whilst we were both in Div2 but not at same time) and then another 17 in the last 50 years with 8 of those 17 coming between 2001-11. For context,Man Utd won 8 games at Goodison during the same period and they were at their peak which shows how much of an outlier that period was for those Liverpool results

The Screen Sport Super Cup was actually a two legged affair played early in the following season. They won both legs; 3-1 at Anfield and 4-1 at Goodison.

The Moyes issue in his first spell was always going away to the CL teams and acting like a plucky lower division side in the FA Cup on a big day out.

At home yes there were defeats but there were plenty of good wins against them and other top teams. Just in his final season there was a 1-0 on the first day against Man. United, RS was 2-2 and coming from 2-0 down, 1-1 v Arsenal, that mad 2-1 win over Spurs when 1 down going into injury time and then beat Man. City comfortably towards the end of the season.

I can also remember a 3-0 win over them in 06/07, a 1-0 win in the 4th place season and other draws. Some of the defeats had really bad ref calls at key points. One game when Kuyt scored a late penalty when foul wasn't even in the box and Rodwell getting a red for a decent tackle.
I'll still be fuming about that Rodwell red on my deathbed, one of the most baffling decisions I've ever seen.

Interesting, some slight ripostes there.... I am getting a bit nerdy about all this, surprised we lost that many games before 1970. Only one way to solve it and win tomorrow.

Torres would always net a few to be fair

This will be my first game at Goodison since Big Duncs last game, and my last before the new stadium.

Bit worried about the ticket after getting it from livefootballtickets (not used them before), but if it’s a dud, I will lose money but will get to say farewell to the grand old lady and say hello and take a look at our shiny new beacon down on the banks of the Mersey.

Potentially, this could be the game that’s saves our season and could be the start of them lot losing the premier league. Wouldn’t that be fantastic?
