They'll probably hold their hands up and say it's a mistake....which in a multiwe million pound set up ,isn't acceptable
Sometimes we complain that they're wasting time showing too many angles here it would have been justified, the fact that they didn't show the most glaring angle throws the spotlight on them and leaves them wide open to all forms of criticism.

what hurt a lot about this game is that until the second Fernandes freekick was lined up I had no doubt we were winning that game

against manchester united

we were totally dominant and they were all over the place

i was never thinking about them getting back in, only will it be 3 or 4 nil

its crushing that they got back in to it, i think moyes has to take some bite for lack of changes though he is really limited in his options and everything was going to plan until that goal

they had two moments from set plays and then a bit of pressure when the heads dropped

a last minute penalty would have been one for the ages

the result in the long term doesnt really matter, we will stay up, we will be a mid to lower table side come the end of the season, but it’s the memory, the moment, the jubilation, the spirit of the blues or another rendition of elton john, it’s the streets around goodison being that bit busier after the match, the sun being that bit brighter, the pints sweeter …

I think we still have a deep rooted fragile mentality that may take a bit of time to overcome 👍

I'd love to know how many times since the 70s we've been screwed by refereeing decisions, particularly in big games or against our closest rivals. There's far too many for it just to be part and parcel of the game and I don't believe in the comments that they even themselves out. Certainly for us they don't.
I still haven't got over the 1977 FA Cup semi final, I was only six and that killed my faith in the fairness of the game!

Just decided to watch the highlights now. What the hell was Doucoure doing for their 2nd goal? He is right on front of their goal scorer when it drops to him. If Doucoure just stands still he blocks it but instead paces to his right opening up the whole goal as the United player takes the shot.
Mind Boggling
I always remember John Burridge literally screaming to his defence when they were defending crosses - ' get them out of my house' - as if his life depended upon it.
That's the attitude to have. Give them nothing. Make yourself as big and front up shots. It shouldn't matter if the ball hits you flush in the face. It won't kill you. Too often defenders seem to turn sideways thus making the target bigger.
We are naive when we defend though - giving far too many free kicks in dangrous places or easy corners. Just invites pressue and changes the impetus of the game.
If Pickford has one fault it is when he sets up a wall. Unforgivable that no one was behind Zirkzee for their first but even failing that it left Pickfords left totally exposed and he seemed to step to his right as well. Seen him do this before. Sickening to know it's going to happen.
Not hammering Pickford btw. He's the main reason we are still in the PL.
