in memoriam - 1961-2023
It's the 2005 Champions League Final ... and that lot come back from 0-3, 1-3, 2-3.. and yeah 3-3 (to penalties)

12 Months later they are 2-3 down to West Ham in the FA Cup Final... and the rest you know!!

And no doubt, lots of other clubs have these triumphs.

But us, on the other hand, have a history littered with 3-2 defeats (well, ok, one big exception in the 1966 FA Cup Final). There's a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Man Utd in the Fairs Cup. There's the 3-2 defeat to Forest in the 6th Round (1967, were 2-0 up). There's a 2-3 at Anfield in 1971 (and we're winning that 2-0, of course) There's Carlisle (2-0 up) and Sheff Utd (2-0 up) in 1974-1975 going for the title. There's the 1977 League Cup Final - Bryan Little breaks our hearts.. There's the 1989 FA Cup Final, I'd rather forget about. There's the painful season opener to Leeds (Big Nev on the post at half-time, 0-3 down). There's Chelsea and Frank/Didier turning us over from 2-1 up. There's Ashley Young doing us 3-2 at Goodison when he should have been red carded. There's Palace in 2014 when Bobby Brown Shoes and the boys are chasing 4th (and, just to add pathos to that, my Dad died 5 days before the game).

And then there's today - 2-1 up and running out of steam..

When, oh when, are we going to learn - or even be a little lucky?

I know you'll get stick for this, but I get the point - we always seem to lose from winning positions. It's that feeling we always have when we're 1-0 with 10 mins ago. You can bet £1million that the other team will score and either draw or beat us.
Today, because of the energy and vibe I thought we'd stick to 2-1 but you can't take Everton out of the players! Something about us and our mentality, and I hate it especially when the other lot are banging on about - and proving - how they always seem to be able to win from tight high pressure situations. Of course, they're at the other end of the scale, and this year Real, Fergie's Man U, Germany = the great teams always seem to find a way to win, and I don't know how we'll ever get like that even just a little bit, once in a while!

K’n hell mate, a least be a bit crafty if you want to wind people up. About as subtle as a rhinos fart.

Correct - we implode (Newcastle 2-0, 2-2) whereas others do not. Game Management, whatever but we manage to blow it all to often and 3-2 defeats are common fodder.

Didn't we beat Wimbledon 3-2 a few years ago after being 2-0 down?

This is why I think the captain is more important than people realise, and a different type of player. Coleman is great at certain things, but a player who can calm down the team, put their foot on the ball, maybe slow the pace, control the pace. But of course, we need a CB, CM and CF who all can keep possession calmly. Not enough good passers in the team. Seems like those 3 positions are STILL crucial in our next transfer window, and we need a new captain.

Bace w[yern 2nd leg ECWC SF 1985 - 0-1 at HT, but I get your point. Once anything goes against this crowd they just roll over without fight.

Yes, football is a game where the score isn’t final until the end.
Liverpool were also 3-0 up against Crystal Palace with around 15 minutes to go looking like they’d win the league before slippy and spitty retired too once…
I’m sure if I supported another team I’d be able to come up with some embarrassing ones over the years too. You’ve literally picked like 10 games from the clubs existence like this is a regular occurrence.
