No idea where to put this, so plumped for here as it concerned yesteryear. Just watching Phil and Gary Neville on Sky discussing Phil's career. Just watched us battering the red brethren 3-0, and have dented the ceiling with my head at each goal of ours. Amazing how I'm still so excited at 67.

Braced for the opprobrium and wrath of the Powers On High for being off topic.

Am I the only one that feels that 50 years ago should be in the post war years, not the seventies? I think I'm getting old. I didnt realize it until I saw the youtube embedded. Just a gut reaction thing.

I went to the game with my dad. I think I was in the Gwladys st upper stand. Alan Ball was my hero. I went to the Panathinaikos match too, unbelievable we battered them but only drew and went out on away goals rule.

My first game at Goodison ( as a 7 year old) with my Dad and older brother too. Dad put me on the wall to give me a better view, but a Policeman told him to get me down.
I vividly remember Gordon West getting stick from the crowd, and him turning round at one point giving the “V” sign back to them!
I also remember a fight breaking out behind me which i found very frightening!
Bizarrely, I don’t recall anything of the match itself.

Exactly 50 years ago today my dad first took me to Goodison. As I was only 7 my main memories are of the floodlights, the bright green pitch and Gordon West receiving dog's abuse from the Street End after conceding a calamitous own goal. Fortunately we stormed back and ran out 6-2 winners with a hat-trick from Alan Ball in his white boots.

tbh, most of the team was a bit off form, but Westy was going through a real crisis of confidence all the game...maybe most of the season...he was having a total mare...and knew it, even gave the fingers to the Street end.
Got dropped and Rankin came in and played a blinder
Harry was apparently not convinced with his keepers and even gave Dai Davies a few games.
1971-72 West was ever present.
1972-73 (another of Harry's declining decisions) he signed Lawson - a real WTF moment in hindsight.

Me neither. I asked my dad on Wednesday why he waited another year after this to take me back to the match. He said I spent the whole game looking back at the crowd and not the pitch and so it would have been a waste of a ticket.

Should of won it that year.
Another great Everton ‘should of ‘.
Yes, it was a relatively weak year for the European Cup. Cagliari were representing Italy, Atlético representing Spain and the holders Feyenoord were knocked out early. After beating a great Gladbach side we should have gone on to the final. Ajax would have been difficult though even at Wembley. The team were playing badly by the end of the season.
