Everton and Dyche

It almost gets overlooked now, but we should have built a statue of him after he kept us up anyway as I wouldn't have backed a single manager in the world to do it at that point.

I was saying exactly this in February, if he keeps us up with the squad he inherited and the position in the league, we should build a statue

Unfortunately many of us saw it in summer.

Most fans would've have accepted being in the position we are now with the team that brought us up.

However for some reason we invested where we didn't need (multiple wingers when that was one of if not our strongest area) and didn't where we did (left back, up top and centre mid).

Dropping Muric who kept 22 clean sheets, was integral to our play and is only 23 himself for an untested 21 year old keeper made no sense. Dropping our best wingers who earn the right to start the season. Not getting Bellis back on loan who was available and went to Southampton and spending money on O'Shea who isn't the right type of player for Kompany's style all made no sense. We upset the players who had got us up and put the new young lads in the spotlight on day one vs city.

It's not even hindsight. Just the most bizarre transfer window after the best ever season imaginable last year!

We will still back and stick with the manager. But it seems like we have wasted a golden opportunity. (The last time that happened was NOT backing Dyche after he got us to 7th!)
That does sound like a bit of a nightmare, thanks for the context. How much control does Kompany have over transfers? I'm guessing less than 100% because you haven't signed the entire Anderlecht youth squad (probably not as good as it sounds).

We once signed 100 players who all play in the number 10 role and ended up with a 10 point deduction and now we can barely fill the required numbers for a premier league squad, so don't worry, nobody's perfect.

Is right you had the best season last year, maybe the players thought they were better than they are... but like other teams with around 100 points it should have been a given you'd survive, if not better.

Of the three I hope it's Burmely staying up cos you're most local, an easy away (especially for me cos I'm a bad wool). And you're not so bad I guess, nice proper ground too with a proper club history there.

Saw a thread on your forum about EFC fans in your home stands, don't worry, we do that everywhere! Wigan can tell you stories about that! :D

From what I understand Kompany not only has full control. But actually a stake in the club and / or the scouting system our owners own and use and various other financial incentives.

TBH I like Kompany. And want us to stick with him. Anyone who gets us promoted in the way he did last year (after losing our entire squad - pope, tarky, McNeil, cornet, Mee etc) has plenty of credit in the bank.

But the summer transfers were naive. As were dropping all the players who got us up.

Our best players last year were almost all replaced in the opener against Man City. Which is effectively a free hit and he should’ve made the new lads earn the right to wear the shirt. Instead they didn’t have to and we also pissed off all the lads that worked hard to get us there. Probably why when zaroury comes on at 3-0 he gets a straight red almost immediately.

Frustrating. But qe sera sera. We were bottom of division four when I started going. Just feels like a wasted opportunity.

Posted at the time you appointed him that this was a master stroke. And tonight (and since he came in) he showed exactly why he was such a good appointment.

Organised, disciplined, aggressive and above all plays to his sides strengths, knows how to exploit opposition weaknesses and get the best out of his own players. Inevitable that Keane would step up tonight and we literally didn't have a sniff.

The reality is, points deduction or not we were never in a relegation battle with Everton and wish (especially) Dyche and the ex Burnley lads all the best. You will continue to progress under this manager, no doubt.

That was the worse I have seen us play this season and that's simply because of how Dyche set you up.

Up the clarets.
Nice of you to come on and say it

You played better than in the cup game against us. There were spells where you put us under a bit of pressure I thought.

Seems like there's been quite a lot of investment at your ground. It's like you ordered some led screens and got loads extra by mistake, they're everywhere. Good sound system as well. The clip with the ex players talking about the town and club with I think foo fighters playing was pretty good I thought.

Let him do the job and don’t get carried away. We are still in difficult times for various reasons and he knows that more than anyone and he’s pulled off some good results so far to his credit.

The extremes on social media at times are jarring mate, either he’s the worst and got to go or he’s the best around . He’s not daft and knows fickle things can get.

Let him actually achieve success before lauding so much, people made that mistake with Moyes and it bred a culture of finishing 6-8th as something to brag about

Yeah the ground has been tarted up and two new stands in the corners opposite the away end have been purpose built for disabled fans. The exec areas have also been massively overhauled and believe they’re superb. Hopefuly means we’ve no plans of leaving any time soon.
