I seem to recall some footage of a generation of 30 and under 'bishes' of their day booing our greatest ever manager and throwing cushions at what would be Everton's greatest ever team. Must be nice to pontificate and patronise in your old age when you've tasted success.
Also relegation scraps tend to bring out good atmospheres. Shock horror at fans getting behind a team that needs them.
As long as the current football continues to represent a no contact training exercise with a joke keeper then the criticism will continue to rain down from fans with high expectations for the club, just as it did in 83. The difference was back then people didn't make up every excuse under the sun for underperformance and try and pipe down fans who thought the team could do better. You also didn't have players and managers coming out complaining about the fans expectations unlike the current set up epitomised by Tim 'I know how good I am' Howard.
