Would anyone take a risk with Christian Erikson? Just reading he's training with the hope to get a new club by the end of Jan or is the heart condition a big no no, he has a defibrillator fitted.
Was wondering that earlier when I read the news reports about him.
Really difficult one, I believe he can’t play in Italy due to the defib, there must be all kinds of HSAW regs about employing someone with his condition in a job that’s physically demanding.
If he had a clear bill of health despite having the defib he’s clearly a good player but can you imagine the moral outrage if he were to have another heart attack on the pitch!

Yeah, I'm kind of thinking along those lines. Could you imagine if he collapsed, such a shame he's only 29.

No.

"We cant risk playing someone as it may be to the detriment of the entire club".

Weve seen Digne perform poorly as a wing back many times. In theory he should be great there but hes far better as an attacking full back.

The simplistic view (which im taking) is that theres been a row and weve signed a replacement.

Other teams are now asking for Digne on the cheap while Benitez sticks him on the bench as if hes 'part of the squad'.

Whats clear (in my simplistic view) is that theres no way Digne can be risked.

Not when weve signed his replacement, are about to sign another full back...and need the sale to improve our FFP anyway.

Im amazed anyone thought Digne would even get on the pitch.

Spot on.

Although, the way FFP works we could just sell a few squad players and we wouldnt need to make a big sale.

E.g Digne, Mina, Holgate, Keane all move for £65mil+ now and summer and we should be positive for 2 out of 3 FFP seasons....plus have a decent amount of money to spend.

No correlation whatsoever.

Im bewildered that you thought Digne would play.

It would be one of the most shocking things ive seen in football if Digne plays the next game.

It would be madness.

We're going to be down £5.5mil on FFP for the 2 full backs...Digne+Holgate probably bring in £35mil.

So we would be around £30mil up on the FFP front.

I think we need to see £20mil for Holgate and Keane combined. Then £15-20mil for Mina.

For this window i think we just need to make sure we bring players in that will stop us leaking goals and add some semblance of football ability.

2 full backs
1 centre back
1 defensive midfielder

All of them u23, able to make an impact now and have high upside.
Zat. Losing at home to Brighton is to the detriment of the entire club

More I think about it the more it’s a no from me.
Not sure if there’s ever been a pro athelete continue at the highest levels with one of these defibs.
Think he might be better to concentrate on a coaching management career now.
Edit - turns out Daley Blind has one already having been diagnosed with myocarditis. There’s also a German striker (lower leagues mind) got one too.

Oh ffs...

With a target that Brands' team scouted.

Benitez liked him. We went for him (TWICE!) in the summer. Good on Benitez for signing off on it and good on the club for getting it done early.
That being said, £11m for a lad with 27 senior club games to his name, in Scotland, is a lot of money

Hopefully it proves to be money very well spent
