Turn the question on its head...

How much would you be happy selling DCL at?

How much do you think Benitez/Brands would be happy selling DCL at?

How much would it cost to sign a replacement? Bear in mind Osimhen cost €68mil from Lille when he went to Napoli and Fiorentina expect €90.5mil for Vlahovic.

For me, Id be surprised if we sold for under £100mil. This is a player who ticks all the boxes for us and gets better every season.

He fits the profile of player a lot of top sides would appreciate...hes also someone we would find hard to replace.

If we sold him then it would need to be enough to sign a higher potential level replacement + another player to make it even worthwhile if we were confident those players would improve us.

It's hard to say how much I'd sell for, purely because I know the board won't get someone in who's just as good.

I think the board value him as much as you, but other teams won't because he's not that good yet.

I was just looking at the centre forwards Benitez has signed for money:

Newcastle: Gayle/Joselu/Muto

Napoli: Higuain/Zapata/Gabbiadini

Liverpool: Torres/Keane/Cisse/Crouch/Morientes

Valencia: Ballesta/Oliveira/Mista

Of those players, only Higuain, Torres and Oliveira were big successes...

When he gets it right then he hits the jackpot, but when he doesnt its like throwing darts.

Crouch and Zapata (whose doing well recently) were also decent but theres a lot of poor signings as well.

So if we did sell DCL i wonder if we would end up with a top player or another Rondon.

That's the big question and big gamble, trusting the current set up to replace one of our important players.

Wouldn't trust anyone who sanctioned the signings of iwobi and Rondon etc

If we sold DCL which I don't think we will unless anything north of £100m.

I would expect use to move forward away from a target man attack, use Richarlison as main forward and strengthen the forward line with a "Mane/Salah" winger come forward so perhaps:
Sarr at Watford.
Madueke at PSV.
Diaz at Porto.
Brereton-Diaz at Blackburn.

Think anything north of £50m would depend whether he can get anywhere near last seasons return or if that was just doing a Wilfred Bony for a season.
If he can do it again then yes £75m+ But this season I can’t imagine any team would offer north of £50m in Jan imo, not that I’m advocating selling him for that btw. With our recruitment we would definitely struggle to replace him.

Hasnt Benitez always gone for the lone forward with 2 wide players and a player in the 10 role?

I think we'll stick to that but be looking for a step up in terms of quality on the right and another wide player to rotate both sides.

Id say Gray will be a fixture on the left then we'll look for two more.

Sarr + Madueke as you mention
Diaby + Doku, Chukwueze for pace
Antony + McNeil for their ball playing

Theres a lot of options.

If we had to replace DCL then Id imagine we'd try for:

Vlahovic + Isak + Nunez + Ketelaere (linked) for size
Gouiri could be a wildcard Benzema type

I think if we offered him at £75mil there would be alot of teams after him at that price.

Hes 3 goals already this season and id bet on him being closer to 20 than 15 if he returns by end of November.

In a top side he'd be hitting 20+ a season no problem while still young and English.

I just hope our transfer policy will change so we start getting young hungry players and not your Delphi’s Rondons and now there is talk of Sanchez ex Arsenal fella

Why can’t we be like Leicester who I believe we are years behind

Fofana, Ndidi and Tielemans are young top class players for them along with Barnes.

We have Godfrey, Gray, DCL and Richarlison in comparison though.

All it takes from us is one good window with 3 young players brought in of similar quality and people will say we're years ahead.

Theres alot of quality around in the u23 age group at the moment...just about spending the money.

Certainly hope so, his trajectory suggests his star is rising.
18/19 - 08 from 38
19/20 - 15 from 41
20/21 - 21 from 39
21/21 - ?????

I hear what you are saying here. And it’s Harry Winks for £40 million.

@CairnsToffee

100m for DCL, come off it.

Tell me who's paying that? Only clubs who can afford those amounts are massive CL clubs, they'll want someone more proven than DCL who's had what one great season scoring wise ( even then it wasn't a full season )

FS you could get haaland for 100m can't you because of his release clause?

DCL wouldn't go for anything remotely close to 100m, because no one would pay it.

I agree . Lukaku just went for 96m to one of the richest teams in the world and he is in his prime, was being bought off a club that just won its league and has scored goals consistently for his whole career.

I guess what I`m also highlighting is that the money we`d get for our best players will be good, I don`t trust the club to spend it in the right way as you have highlighted and what we have seen in the last 4 years. Spurs wasted the Bale money, we wasted the Lukaku money and we would do the same again IMO...
