Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Meh, it was a strange game, at 3-0 everybody was going through the motions, then Spurs grabbed a goal and it was game on.

I dont think the subs were a factor personally, both their goals were due to sloppy mistakes made by tired players and in 1 case Pickford being bored.

If you ask me, which you didnt, what we need, its harder after yesterday, put it that way.

I think our fullbacks are still pretty poor, sorry
I think our midfield although functional, is a bit plodding, theres no ball player
Our attacking options are Beto and Jack Harrison
Doucs still plays

Its still pretty bad, so what do we need?

Exactly. We need better everywhere. LB clearly needs depth so that's a priority.

I would look at what impact a player like Anderson has had on Forest. Legs and dynamism centrally. My worry is we look at the depth we have at CM and decide we are fine there, when we can massively improve (and should).

Sunderland have a real chance of going up, be shocked if they sold a player for 30m which would mean they lose out on a 300m PL windfall for promotion, but then they might need the money.

Saints might think they should cash in on the Dib cos they down anyway.

Maybe in the summer, but I imagine Moyes would be looking for people who could come in and hit the ground running and a 17 year old and 18 year old doesnt do that.

Both these boys are very highly rated and I dont see either finding their way to Everton sadly, but the Football League and Europe is rammed full of players like these boys, you just need to find them.

Thought the same before they sold Jack Clarke...

Yeah sadly I dont see us doing anything there, UNLESS Doucs fancys a move to Saudi in the next week.

I suspect Moyes will look at a fullback and a "winger" of some kind.

Then we need to hope we can shift a few this window.

He's solid and reliable and cover both RB and LB. Wouldn't break the bank either. We need to make more of these shrewd type deals and he's one that matches that.

He's not looked either solid or reliable whenever I've seen him to be honest but a lot of people seem to see something different so fair enough.

If Moyesy wants him I'll go with it no questions asked.

If we sign those types of players mate then with our finances and needs then the money we'd pay they'd have to come in and be ready now.

We can't drop best part of 50m minimum on players to develop who won't be nailed down starters.

That's hopefully for a future Everton side to have the nice situation with.

Could argue we almost met spurs grab a point due to having zero depth there though, as last twenty we were goosed. Asking a 35yo to play a full 90 every game and Mangala whose having to do more work than he's used to doing tells badly on us later in games

If theres "zero depth" currently then typically you buy superior new starters so that the existing players would become squad players.

However, you can also bring in top young players to come in to the squad and push the current starters to perform better. This would be what we have seen whenever the top sides bring through/in a younger player.

Love the mentality Zat. Alas we're not in a position (I'm pretty sure) to be shelling out £60m+ on two players for the future, when we need players for the now.

Albeit Dibling walks into our starting XI and improves it immediately.

Not the time. We need players who can walk straight in.

We dont need "players for the now" or "players who can walk straight in".

Yes that would be great if we could sign a player that would come into the 11 and be a star instantly and for the next 5 years + sell for a monumental fee.

How likely is that currently?

So, what we could seek to do is increase the competition for places -- young hungry players that can push the starters all the way.

I dont want to throw out more names but...as I said Dibling comes into the squad competing at RW and Lindstrom knows he needs to deliver every week or the kid takes his spot.

Rigg comes in and old man Gana will know he cant let his level drop or the boy will retire him.

An 18/19 year old left back coming into training and playing 40 yard passes could make Mykolenko try to be more open and productive.

You dont always need immediate improvement from signings...you would be better off surely if the squad was improving from a new signing -- its well known that the better quality the new player is the whole squad gets a lift.

We wont sign a starter with the same quality as these kids.

I agree. We need everything. But to me, certainly some positions are more critical in January than others.
