….its not ‘massaging stats’ to get on the end of crosses from the other flank, its desire, technique and hard work. Lampard made a career of it from central areas, I love seeing wide players with that commitment. Sterling was fantastic at doing it.
From watching Gordon in his Academy days he scored plenty from 20 yards, I used to refer to them as ‘curly wurly’s’ because he’d come in from the left flank and curl them into the top corner. Some of his finishing at Newcastle has been very decent, scored a fine goal with his left foot across the keeper in the past few games.
Speed is clearly an attribute, dodgy hamstring might ultimately impact him but there’s more there than you credit him for. In terms of market value, I expect his market value is at a different level to McNeil.
