Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

….its not ‘massaging stats’ to get on the end of crosses from the other flank, its desire, technique and hard work. Lampard made a career of it from central areas, I love seeing wide players with that commitment. Sterling was fantastic at doing it.

From watching Gordon in his Academy days he scored plenty from 20 yards, I used to refer to them as ‘curly wurly’s’ because he’d come in from the left flank and curl them into the top corner. Some of his finishing at Newcastle has been very decent, scored a fine goal with his left foot across the keeper in the past few games.

Speed is clearly an attribute, dodgy hamstring might ultimately impact him but there’s more there than you credit him for. In terms of market value, I expect his market value is at a different level to McNeil.
Gordon is not, and will never be,in the same league as Lampard. His finishing is nowhere near as good. He's fast and he scores tap ins mostly, but there's a reason why he'd rather dive than try and score. He does occasionally miss the crowd with his shots from distance and the net gets in the way, but it's infrequent.

I do think sometimes we hold Thelwell to a higher standard than most. No team gets their recruitment right all the time and given that he has had to use the bargain bin and ensure that we have at least enough bodies for a thin squad he does deserve some slack. TFG have to decide whether he is capable of fashioning a squad next season without one hand being tied behind his back.

shaping up to be another standard Thelwell transfer window...
