Everton January 2025 Transfer Thread

Thoughts turning to the window now - I started the season thinking we needed a left back to cover/push Myko.

The right wing is pretty ordinary, Lindstrom hasnt settled yet.

Right back continues to be problematic, even though we have lots of options to cover it.

We are well stocked with strikers but none are excelling - perhaps Broja can grab the first choice spot and Chermiti can make an impact. It's such an important position though - if somebody becomes available it may pay for our PL survival ? Financially I wonder whether selling DCL for a fee is good business.

We have enough CBs.

Injuries aside, we probably have enough midfielders - but do we have an obvious general or advanced / creative midfielder ?

LB and RW make the most sense to me for incoming starters. I'd also like to see a couple of players (as ive said before) like Rigg and Dibling -- similar to those two who can impact the first team next season with a long term rebuild in mind.

It is imperative we make signings or too much pressure on the summer.

Dibling will goto a top 6 club. Rigg more likely but already being touted with bigger clubs abroad.

Disagree it's imperative we sign. If we're coached properly then this squad is fine. Then sell before we buy. Plus January isn't renowned for value.

….be good if we can unearth a bit of quality at a bargain price rather than continually paying the going rate for mediocrity.

Going rate for a Garner, Iroegbunam or even a McNeil would be £15-20mil.

What we need to do is spend money on players that can come in and impress for a season or two and flip them for bigger fees.

Two players in for £20mil that can be flipped at £30-40mil gets the ball rolling, but its not easy. That covers us to reinvest and take advantage of PSR.

In tandem go for the high potential youth initially as squad players (as our out of contract backup/rotation options will be gone in summer) with the aim to develop them to push into the first 11.

Just examples of the type we need to bring in for long term team building.

In the summer we will (should!) have a dozen or so contracted squad players. I dont think its wise to sign 10 players in the summer -- also unwise to extend the contracts of anyone who should go.

Therefore we need 3 signings in Jan.

Dont have any loan spots left mangala lindstrom international, broja harrison domestic
This is a concerning fact as with the amount of upheaval its been the best recruitment path. Of course it's always fun to get in signings but lets face it even if TFG have been operating under a timetable of acquisition for half a year its different to be in the building. Maybe they are being very tight lipped on a DoF they've already agreed upon but call me dubious. And if thats the case deciding on additions without an embedded club structure and strategy sounds a lot like past mistakes.

I don't want to make longterm signings without a longterm club vision known throughout the club. That's reliant on an empowered DoF that currently we don't have. Maybe its not that stark considering the amount of expirings and Dyche. Its conceivable an addition or two is all needed to be more than pretty confident in avoiding the drop. Assume a DoF comes in soon that's 5 so months of a vision, bigboards and contingencies to lay out with only an extra name or two to account for. Not to mention a detailed examination at manager thoroughly discussing what kind of gaffer best suits such a vision.

Alas that's talking about it rationally I doubt it can or will go that harmoniously.
