Reading some of the posts in this thread reminds me of how lots of football fans have a real weak grasp on the reality of transfers and prospective signings.
Without major outgoings, I'd be amazed if we signed anyone in January. You can argue whether we need the squad strengthening and I'm sure everyone will agree. But there is unlikely to be significant funds available.
If we can get some players off the wage bill then maybe we could do something. Who's buying the likes of Tosun, Bolasie, Sigurdsson, Bernard etc when there's likely to be limited money to spend at most clubs?

He really isn't, he isn't a fullback that keeps width, he is a fullback that cuts inside so we would need a winger that holds width, not James
Then James would be a no.10 in this scenario where he would be marked by a defensive mid and effect his game considerably

And I will give the same answer I did then. You don’t hire Ancelotti and his team for 4.5yrs and pay out like a 100mil in salaries. To then not back him

Not sure the club can throw money at things every transfer window. Financially they can't do it but strategically it doesn't seem sensible either.
It makes sense to let the current squad gel. If some surplus players can be moved on then re-invest that money in January. If not, stick with what you've got and try the develop that squad of players. Next summer there will be more movement of players across the board. Particularly if there is more stability in football finances as the pandemic has a potential end in sight
Bernard was nearly out the door to Roma in the summer but the club blocked it. Can see him being shipped on. Sigurdsson is impossible to sell.
The issue for Moshiri is not money, it’s FFP. So in that sense, we do need to make room in the squad for arrivals.
Not anticipating a lot of signings but I am hoping for some.
The first XI is decent. Majority of the rest of the squad needs punting. It will take a while to do that.

He’s been backed in one window. I’m not saying we will Definitely spend money in January, but he will be backed again next summer and the summer after. If he’s not, then pointless appointing him.
Yes we need to shift players out and in the next 2 summers, loads of the high earners will leave.
I’m not sure this group of players can Gel. We have 5/6 players good enough to kick us on. We probably need 10 new players. 2/3 maybe youngsters, coming through or signed.
But this squad is miles off and Ancelotti isn’t here to wait 4/5 years to get it right
You just said that we need to wait until the 4th year to see the real Ancelotti tho...

It could take that long, we won’t know how Ancelotti and Everton will pan out. But he and moshiri want to us to compete ASAP
