Better than Pickford

Better than Pickford
Long considered one of Italy's most exciting prospects, and one of the most promising young footballers of his generation, Donnarumma is widely regarded as the successor to Gianluigi Buffon.[19][61][62][63] Buffon himself has in turn praised the teenager's physical strength and technical abilities, mental composure and decision making.[64] Predicting an "extraordinary career" in his future,[65] he commended Donnarumma's maturity and ability to cope with the pressures of being a goalkeeper at such a young age.[66] Another of Italy's World Cup-winning goalkeepers, Dino Zoff, similarly said Donnarumma seems "predestined to become a great goalkeeper," adding that "it all depends completely on him."[67] Former Milan and Italy goalkeeper Giovanni Galli also described Donnarumma as a potentially world-class goalkeeper, applauding him for his discipline, intelligence, concentration, and professionalism, despite his young age.[68]

A 2015 ESPN profile praised Donnarumma's fundamental goalkeeping skills, identifying his large slender frame and reach, agility, and composed nature as his biggest strengths; writer Nick Dorrington additionally described the teenager as "a natural leader [with] the necessary confidence to organise a defence featuring players twice his age."[7][19] Despite his tall and imposing stature,[7] Donnarumma possesses good reactions,[69] and is effective at stopping penalties.[70] Matt Jones has also praised Donnarumma for his shot-stopping ability, and speed when rushing off his line to face opponents in one on one situations.[71] Former Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati touted Donnarumma as a potential future captain for Milan in 2016, noting that Donnarumma's temperament, introverted character, and ability to withstand pressure were all the necessary qualities needed for him to succeed in this role.[72] Although Donnarumma is regarded as being competent with the ball at his feet, pundits such as Mina Rzouki, Paolo Menicucci, and Sam Lopresti, as well as former goalkeeper Fernando Orsi, have cited his ball control and distribution, as well as his overall consistency, positioning, handling, punching technique, and his ability to defend crosses and command his box as areas in which he needs to improve as he gains more experience.

Very much so.

Thauvin is an interesting one. Failed at Newcastle by all accounts but has been great at Marseille. We need another winger. Anyone know what his strengths are? We need more pace.
My housemate is from Marseille and so the games are often on TV of an evening. Thauvin regularly runs the show more often than not, irrecognisable from the player of Newcastle in 2015-17. Not the quickest but no slouch by any means - likes to float inside to get involved, allowing a marauding wing-back the space to overlap. Would be all over him on a free if we get the chance, technical ability is better than what we've got currently.

Anyone who has looked at our accounts knows we won’t be lumping that sort of money on a 28/29 year old whose main attribute is pace - would just be repeating the same short termism that has got us into the ffp predicament we’re going to find ourselves in when covid finally ends.

Am hoping brands can pull some rabbits out of the hat - when he arrived i was looking forward to seeing us acquire some relative unknowns and turn them into world beaters but there’s been a sparse return in that area - generally when we’ve bought foreign players they’ve been physically not suited to the premier league. Hopefully he’s learnt from his mistakes.

Not sure if brexit work permit issues will knacker any of those plans mind.

Our accounts look very good at the minute after what moshiri has done the past month.

I do doubt we'll be buying anyone like Zaha in the up coming transfer window though. I'd imagine if we were to dip into the transfer window we'd be looking at either a winger or a dcm. Although I can only see us going after a winger if we sell Bernard or some such.

He'd be a beautiful Sigurdsson replacement as someone whose impact is largely set plays and nothing else.
That's a good example. I was pretty on board with him before he went to Milan because his set pieces were, really, amazing. But the discussion basically came around to "he's a #10 who doesn't do anything himself" and that's pretty apt. He's not fast, he's doesn't really create much outside of set pieces, he doesn't score a lot.

So...yeah. Sweeerrrrrrvvee

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has rejected his Man United contact with 6 months to go.

Right back with Premier League experience with United plus Palace and Fulham on loan respectively.

He is also a 3 capped Dutch International.
