We have done this without defending well or creating many chances and will still find ourselves there. Spend the summer budget if we have too... you can’t wait for this opportunity again... we have waited since 1992 to be in a position like this and it’s happened once.

If we spend our Summer budget now, it has to be on the same players that we'd want to buy in the Summer. There's no point buying players simply because they're available, as then we might end up stuck with another three or four we don't really want and no money to get those we do. Ancelotti and Brands have to be really canny this window. They must know there's an opportunity here that's unlikely to be repeated, that we could easily crack the top four and maybe even win the cup, but any players we get permanently must be able to get us there and then keep us there. It's no use getting to the top unless we're in a position to stay at the top.

You forget Tosun in that list. Surely he will consider leaving now after last night. So i hope for Kenny, Branthwaite, Tosun, Bernard to leave and get an attacker in for sure who can play multiple positions. Right back maybe but with Holgate playing there Carlo might resist.

I very much agree. We are now in a position very foreign to Everton, yet its where we belong. We are mid January and not only is top 4 within reach, winning the PL is too. I ofc dont think we’ll manage that, even with reinforcements, but getting a couple of quality player in this window could be difference between top 8 and top 4. if we get CL next year, that combined with having Carlo as a manager, a higher level of player will probably be available to us. This is the time to invest in the squad and make us real contenders.
Their whole squad is worth less than we paid for Richarlison.

I would also say we need to decide on Gordon and that will probably mean we need a young LW also.
I think if we are able to get either a RW, RB or striker this window it will be enough to push us to top 4.
I personally would say a RB would improve balance and make us an all round better team, if we could nail a RB this window we can have a great second part of the season.

Just give Carlo who he wants - I'd be surprised if there aren't teams looking to balance their books after this Covid nightmare - the market may be more fluid than in many years.

Even just one player in could change a season. Landon Donovan in 2009-10 came in and we won 11 games out of 18 from Jan to end of season (I know he left end of March). If we can pick up 1 player that can help us win 11 more games, we'd be laughing all the way into Europe (without ham sandwiches of course).
