Everton January transfer window 2021

It isn't "surely" worth the risk.

He could have zero impact. He is a young lad.
So is lamptey

Fact is Coleman is injury prone and he is no longer effective going forward. Many attacks break down because of his poor crossing. We cannot rely on holgate as a stop gap if Coleman is injured as he doesn’t get forward that often. If we are going to compete with Southampton and Leicester we need to have two full backs who will contribute to the attacks and at the moment we only have one which is digne.

Godfrey hit the ground running I see no reason why Aaron’s wouldn’t

Every player has his price

Covid has affected lots of clubs financially

Norwich have replaced Godfrey so can’t see why they couldn’t do the same with Aaron’s without it affecting their promotion hopes
We just won’t be dropping 30mil on a right back in January. We might bring in some loans but it was made very clear at the AGM that the financials need to be managed and big fees wouldn’t be on the cards for us this month. If they wanted a right back this month I doubt they’d go for Aaron’s for that reason

2 reasons why not for me.
1. Would we really spend 30m on a right back now when Holgate has been very good in that position when covering for Coleman.
2. Norwich are top of the championship and it would be nuts to let him go at this point of the season.

I know we all want marauding full backs who can also defend, but if Iwobi or James are going to be used on the right then a more solid defensive right back isn’t a bad thing. Holgate isn’t shocking at supporting them either.

Brands and CA have both indicated we will not be active in this window apart from outgoings.
I think we may sign some young players and there may even be a loan deal and maybe even an option to buy but we all know that in this window the players you would like to buy are generally not for sale.

I think the January window is better for selling as clubs begin to get worried and there are some players that could easily be sold.
Kenny(8m) , Kean (32), Tosun (10) and Bernard(8) in particular and between the four could raise close to 60m. We are told there is interest in all four and none of them have really been involved in games to any serious degree.

I just don't think we are in the market to sell any other player as strangely the squad of players at the club the manager appears to want to work with is quite small.

Stop talking sense.

Even though we know the club have a policy of not spending much in January, and at the AGM they said we were going to spend much, and the manager has said we’re not going to spend much, and Brands has said were not going to spend much, this is clearly untrue.

We want half a teams worth or it’s sack the board time.

I'm not sure Aarons makes that much difference mate. Holgate has been very decent in there and it will take Aarons time to settle.

Honestly wouldnt be surprised if we tried in the summer, and they take less come the end of the season.

...it’s the dimension a player like Aarons gives the team that’ll make the difference. Digne gives us so much threat on one side but Coleman is fragile and I’m not convinced by Holgate at RB, other than as a stop-gap and even then I can see Godfrey leapfrogging him in the role.

Agree, it’s looking more likely to be a summer change.

thats a bit hyperbolic

if i trusted everything that came out of people's mouths then i would be a gullible fool

Carlo said to the press earlier this season that rodriguez was injured after the merseyside derby and then he started the next game, he also said nkounkou would feature after digne's injury and he wasn't even in the matchday squad

James didn’t finish the next game because of the injury then missed the next few games.

I am sure the club will engage in a little misdirection, and I still think a signing is possible, but probably depends on outgoings. However, given our track record in January under Brands. I think a significant first team signing is unlikely.

Brands said the club "will be monitoring for developing opportunities".

Carlo has proven to be a bit of a tricky bloke when it comes to team selection and injuries for sure. That being said, I am inclined to believe Brands when he says no big layout this window.
For what it’s worth, I do really like Aaron’s as a player and if he’s the guy we go for in summer, grand - but I can see us looking elsewhere just due to the price and inevitable competition. Don’t ask me who though haha

This window should be focused on selling players and getting in a couple of loans.

Madrid have a few available for loan and im sure many others will too.

Keep our powder relatively dry.

Id be ecstatic if we sold Kenny, Tosun and Bernard this window. Kean less so but if we managed to get £40mil+ then it makes sense.

£60mil+ would be a huge lift to the finances before another cull in the summer.

What do you prefer, 2 full backs like Digne who are very attack minded or to have a couple like Godfrey?

Im pretty open on it and while i love the idea of seeing two superstar flying full backs making us a huge threat from all over the pitch, i do also like currently seeing us recreating the George Graham Arsenal 1-0 days and the similar italian sides of the 90s who were very hard to beat.

Yes, this. Strengthen temporarily where we have to, and prepare for wages coming off.

The flexibility of Godfrey and Holgate means that, with a few additions, we can do both.

The same side that goes out and tries to bury Moyes in goals midweek can then turn around on Saturday and try to grind out a 1-0 to the Everton against Chelsea. We can probably even switch on the fly if, say, we get behind against Chelsea.

The ability to change our approach wholesale mid-match would give opposition managers fits when we are at full strength and can do so.
