I disagree. If the rumour of no loan fee and us still paying 50% of his wages is correct then shipping him out for 6 months saves us about a million quid. That's fine, but if he came off the bench and scored a winner that got us one place higher in the table it'd gain us more than that. He's quite capable of doing that if nothing else, so letting him go definitely does weaken the squad and if nobody replaces him then it just doesn't seem worthwhile to me. If Simms was still here maybe it would be different, but to not even have any striker that you could just throw on for 15 minutes in the hope something falls to them in the box would just be bizarre.
Neither you, nor I know the details of any proposed loan deals - or indeed if there have actually been any offers for him. If he goes, whatever the deal - it's because the powers that be deem it's for the benefit of the club.

I quite like the big, bald grock - but I do know that if he was backing up DCL then he'd have been involved more to do just that.
44 minutes in 5 cameos in the league from 11 games on the bench. He's clearly surplus to requirements.

Theres a race?????

Pickford / Olsen
DF: Coleman / Holgate / Godfrey / Mina / Keane / Nkounkou / Digne

MF: Allan / Doucoure / Davies / Sigurdsson / Delph / Gomes / Gbamin

WF: James / Iwobi / Gordon / Richarlison / DCL

Thats if we punt Bernard, Tosun, Kenny, Besic...

If we bank £15mil for them and circa £250k a week in wages then we'd be doing very well.

Lets not forget that we also have Kean on loan who (despite rumours) is still our player and hasnt been sold.

If we can keep our powder dry until the summer then we'll be seeing a lot of good value deals which we can take advantage of.

For me, this is a time to sell...
Defence and midfield aren’t an issue

But attacking wise - it’s short. 5 players to cover 3 positions with one of them being Gordon - who Carlo doesn’t seem to trust yet , and on evidence isn’t ready to have an impact - and James who for all the amazing ability he has is unlikely to be playing every game we have left.

I’d be gutted if we missed out on Europe because we have to put out a lineup like we did against Newcastle away with about 6 midfielders in there because we have left ourselves light up top/out wide .

We also have Digne and Nkounkou who can play further forward if needed.

If its a loan for someone then it makes sense but to sign a player when theres going to be some big discounts in the summer seems like a rash move to me.

Unless thats someone we would go for in summer anyway.

Don't imagine Delph or Gbamin will feature much for us this season, if at all. Whilst you are correct to state they are on the payroll, I think it's misguided to list them as viable options for selection.

Delph has 18 months left on his contract and therefore if we get ANY interest in him we should be selling immediately.

Outside of Allan and Doucoure, none of the other MF listed have any pace and all are a significant step down in quality.

In light of all that, I'd say we should be looking at a CM now and another one in the summer.

Looking at the forwards: if Bernard and Tosun do go then we need another body in, ideally on loan. Failing that, I'd recall Walcott. Now is not the right time to BUY a new forward... Josh King on loan would be fine by me - he's an upgrade on Tosun, his current wages would be manageable, he'd be ok with playing second fiddle to DCL and he can play wider in a front 3 if we go back to the 4-3-3.

In conclusion, presuming Bernard, Tosun and Delph all follow Bolasie out the door:

Buy Olise from Reading now (£8m)

Get King from Bournemouth now (loan).
