Everton January transfer window 2021

Tosun isnt and hasn't been a solution at any stage except in a two up; the problems at the weekend were highlighted again with our slow cbs once our fullbacks pushed on ( Wilson running down the sides all day ), Siggi doing zilch as usual , Richie shocking and no service to DCL. And the elephant in the room; playing way too slow.
Tosun has scored 1 in 5 in the Prem, many of those games from the bench. Not great stats and, as I have stated numerously, he isn't a very good player at premier level. But, along with Bernard he does give you an option, not a great one admittedly, but an option nonetheless when the players on the pitch are simply not doing it. We didn't have that option on Saturday and we won't have that option for the rest of the season unless we bring in a replacement.

Let's be clear. I am not against selling Tosun, and to a lesser extent Bernard. I'm just saying that we need to bring in a replacement this window. To simply say he's crap anyway so we won't miss him is quite simply ludicrous.

I'd take King on loan because we badly need someone but it's got "100k a week for 3 seasons and 3 goals" written all over it.

There's only two types of transfers we should go for these days:
  • Experienced, comfortably CL quality player, at a short term cost which we accept in trade for the immediate improvement in the team. Allan for example.
  • Long term player who should be good enough to have an impact straight away, but with the general expectation that they won't be the finished article. Godfrey is one of these.
Anything else is risky/bad business. See Tosun, Bolasie, Sigurdsson.
We should offer him an 18 month deal with an option for an extra year based on appearances/goals. If he believes in himself he'll take it if he doesn't we shouldn't be interested anyway.

3 1/2 years later and I still have the exact same view on him haha

It'd be "one of those" signings - a Delph type. A chance he comes good, every chance he's yet another 30-ish year old contract mercenary looking for his last payday, much more likely the latter than the former, and we'll be paying out the nose for the privilege of finding out.

Yet, all that said... he's better than nothing I guess. And that's the alternative - nothing - because we have literally nothing to rotate/freshen up that front line of Richarlison/DCL/James right now, because I don't count Iwobi and Gordon.

Smart clubs don't find themselves fretting over whether they can tie up a deal for Josh King on deadline day of the January transfer window.

As we evidently aren't a smart club, and our options appear to be Josh King or the empty seat on our bench at the weekend, then the decision seems to be clear...

...get Oumar Niasse on the blower ffs.
