Everton Murals?

It started with Kenwright...and intentionally so. The last thing he wanted was Everton to be high profile and attract investors he couldn't;t control.

The Kirkby stadium business was frightening. The willingness to declare defeat to that lot by leaving the city was horrifying...and the amount of supporters going along with it showed that they too had accepted defeat.

One thing I would credit Moshiri for was that he dreamed big. That dockside stadium would never have gotten done otherwise.

We saved ourselves from oblivion with that build and all the Kopites know it too.

Next step: plaster this 'kin city with all things Everton related. That's what TFG task is as much as buying players.
Just as long as its not accoustic guitars, i draw the line at accoustic guitars

I know you are usually throwing in as WUM but Dave is absolutely spot on here.

Our profile in the city centre is bordering on non existent.
We decided to throw up advertising campaigns in Bogota, but have completely lost the battle in terms of being seen in our own city.

Its not easy competing with a global entity, but there are 2 ways of going about it.

The Espanyol way.....you can buy Espanyol shirts in the Barcelona store, they have been that dwarfed by them
The Atletico Madrid way, i was in Madrid earlier in the year, and its just as much Atletico stuff as Real Madrid stuff.

Whats stopping us from throwing up electric advertising of Pickford or N'Diaye up outside Lime Street?
There'll be nothing stopping it, it's more to do whether there's any great benefit to it. Liverpool don't have a bigger profile than us because they have a couple of murals round the city and the odd billboard, they have a bigger profile than us because they're arguably one of the 4/5 biggest clubs in the world and we... aren't. They've probably won about 20 trophies since we last won one and occasionally win more games in a month than we do in a year. If we want kids to grow up supporting Everton we need to worry about what happens on the pitch a lot more than we worry about what happens off it.

Respectively disagree. Of course we have to do it on the pitch, but in the meantime we cannot neglect the things off it. We have to keep the kids, and we have loads, because of family ties, not success.

That's not disagreeing though? I'm not saying we shouldn't try to take care of our existing fans, i'm saying people shouldn't confuse cause and effect. Liverpool don't have more global fans because they put up murals and billboards, they put up murals and billboards because they have more global fans.

I wasent talking about how to garner more fans.

i was talking about having more of a presence in the city the club is in. The city that the club has now built 3 stadiums in.

If we cant stand our ground in our home city, were can we?

If anything, with the reds being a huge global conglomerate and operating on completely different scale than us (as you have said, one of the biggest5/6 clubs in the world), there is a way to market that.

Its like saying Amalia in town cant compete with Pizza Express because they are huge

Well no it's not really like that at all. I'm not saying we can't or shouldn't do these things i'm saying there isn't always actually a benefit to it. What it would be more like is Amalia doing the same level of advertising as Pizza Express, despite knowing that they won't get the same commercial benefit from it.

So a couple of murals walking from town to the ground, building a bit of an 'Everton Way' or raising the profile of our players by plastering them up around town for kids to see so they aren't just blindsided by the likes of Messi or Ronaldo (could coincidently lead to selling more shirts, names on backs etc) would be spending the same as them.

FWIW the reds don't need to spend anything, they are like Coke or McDonalds, there Prescence is enough , from some weirdo creating Jurgens, to the knock of scarfs on the high street.

But we need to be proactive as that sort of profile cant just appear from nowhere.
It would be like Amalia not advertising or bothering at all because Pizza Express have a bigger budget

No again. Your original question was what was stopping us from putting a big billboard up at Lime Street. The answer was that there's nothing stopping them, but it's not likely to have the effect you're thinking it will. Liverpool put the stuff up because the market for it is already there, they will have tourists coming from Japan and America and Norway to do tours of murals and all that stuff, it's worth doing because there's people to sell it to. We don't have the market for it, so we could put up a load of murals and it would be nice for us to look at and that, but nobody's going on a bus tour to do it, there just isn't the fanbase for it. Like I said to begin with, i'm not saying the club can't or shouldn't do it, just that it would likely be a fairly futile exercise in the grand scheme of things.

To be clear, and speak for myself, I am disagreeing with. I do get what you are saying, but have a different perspective on it.

You are of course welcome to disagree, but what you said wasn’t disagreeing with me, it was an entirely different point. We have to keep kids wanting to support us, I agree with that. Winning games is a better way of doing it than sticking a billboard up at lime street in my opinion, but you if you disagree it’s all good.
