Roberto Martinez is doing himself no favours with his latest comments via Royal Blue Mersey
The manager's dig at predecessor appear mis-guided to say the least.
Roberto Martinez has risked further wrath from his own supporters following his comments regarding his predecessor David Moyes.
Martinez has come under increasing pressure in recent weeks following Everton's slump in form and Saturday's FA Cup semi-final defeat against Manchester United appeared to be his final chance at salvation.
The aftermath of that crushing Wembley defeat saw Martinez vigorously defend his three-year tenure at Goodison Park. That included what appeared to be a thinly-veiled dig at Moyes, who he replaced in the Goodison hotseat in the summer of 2013.
"If I had been given ten years to work with Everton by being mediocre I would not accept that. We are a big club with big expectations and we have not won silverware for 21 years.
"I just want to believe, with the work I have done for the last three years, there are signs there that we are getting close to challenging for silverware, and where Everton should be.
"We developed young players, gave them big roles, and they reacted and showed character, flair and drive in the biggest football arena.
"In the first season we had the record number of points in the Premier League and in the second the experience of Europe. We gave young players big roles and have not invested money but managed assets.
"We were very unfairly stopped from being in the League Cup final and that never stopped us wanting to come to Wembley.
"There are signs in the three years I could have earned the opportunity to drive the club forward and I am sure we can fulfil our expectations and fulfil the dreams of every Evertonian. I am very much attached to it."
Given the heat Martinez is under at the moment criticising Moyes' tenure at the club and labelling it "mediocre" looks to be an unwise move.
The Scot may have angered many fans for the way he left Everton for Man United but the entire support is grateful for what he did for the club during his 11 years in charge.
Everton only finished below eighth twice during his time as manager, while Martinez is set to guide the club to a second successive finish in the lower half of the table, despite having considerable funds to spend.
Just like his handling of the Leighton Baines situation earlier this month Martinez is picking on the wrong people and merely isolating himself still further from the frustrated support.
Whether that will filter up to the boardroom remains to be seen. The Goodison powerbrokers certainly have some big decisions to make in the coming weeks.
