Baines and Stones vital for Everton plans via everton-mad

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has stressed the two are set to play major roles for the club between now and the end of the season.

Ankle surgery has meant Baines did not make his first appearance this term until December, and the 31-year-old full-back has recently been spending time on the bench, with his last start coming in late January.

That was also the most recent time Stones was part of the first XI, the 21-year-old centre-back initially being sidelined by a hamstring issue and then joining Baines among the substitutes for the last two games.

With only two goals conceded and five wins registered over the last six matches, Everton have fared quite well without the pair, who are looking to be part of England's Euro 2016 squad.

However, Martinez – while revealing Baines is to see a specialist over continued ankle pain but still likely to be available for Saturday's home clash with West Ham – has emphasised both men are "vital" for the Toffees.

"Those two are vital for our future plans and for us to be successful from now until the end of the season, they are going to be a big part of that," the Spaniard said.

"With Leighton, we have a little bit of a worry – he has been carrying a little bit of a niggle in his ankle and we have to make sure that gets right.

"Since the surgery, it has been giving him a little bit of soreness and managing that pain at times has been a little bit difficult.

"When he came on against Aston Villa (on Tuesday) he felt at times he had to play through the pain, and we have to make sure we solve that, because it is very unfair on Leighton.

"We will see a specialist, but it shouldn't stop him from training.

"John is still a very young man who has already played the biggest amount of minutes he ever has in his professional career.

"So it's important he is fully refreshed and ready for the final push in the campaign.

"He is a very important footballer for us."

Baines' fellow left-back Bryan Oviedo is to be assessed ahead of Saturday's Barclays Premier League contest after sustaining a knock in the 3-1 win at Villa, along with midfielder Tom Cleverley, who missed that match due to illness.

Muhamed Besic and Darron Gibson could also make their returns to action in the game.

The visit of West Ham will be the first home fixture Everton have had since it was announced billionaire Farhad Moshiri was acquiring 49.9 per cent of the Goodison Park outfit.

Martinez has reiterated it is an exciting development for the club, while stressing they are not losing anything in terms of their "soul"

He said: "This is a really exciting time for us, one of the most significant moments off the field that has happened for Everton and a really important time for our future.

"This is going to be the first home game and I'm sure Mr Moshiri will be around with our fans very soon, and everyone will get to know him.

"What is important is we haven't lost anything in terms of the soul of our club. The chairman (Bill Kenwright) is going to be very important in terms of advice and experience.

"I don't think he (Moshiri) will be there on Saturday, but he may be there for one of the next three games."

Everton loan Callum Connolly to Barnsley via Royal Blue Mersey

A one month loan to help the surging League One side.

With a month to go in the League One season and Barnsley moving from relegation place to just outside the league one promotion playoff Everton have given the Tykes a big push to making a run for that spot. The 18 year old Callum Connolly plays at both fullback positions as well as in the midfield. He has a knack for scoring goals and has been capped for the U-19 England team four times so far.

Barnsley have only lost one game in their last 14 since the Christmas holiday and are out of the playoffs only by goal differential right now. Callum brings another attacking and defending asset that could help them reach promotion which would be a good result for them and a great experience for the youngster to be part of.

Connolly is only 18 years old and a bit blocked at the fullback position with Everton. His current contract carries him through the summer of 2017. It's unlikely he breaks into the squad next season with Leighton Baines, Bryan Oviedo, Brandon Galloway and Luke Garbutt all blocking his natural position of left back, but perhaps he could challenge for the right back spot with more time there during his loan. It might be interesting for the Everton scouts to see where Barnsley deploy him.

How much is Moshiri’s 49.9% stake in Everton worth? via Royal Blue Mersey

The picture about the investor's shares getting clearer

Media outlets are now reporting the breakdown of new Everton majority shareowner Farhad Moshiri's stake in the club. The news of the takeover broke on Saturday and since then fans have been curious to find out what exactly the new owner paid for his 49.9% share of the Toffees.

Club Chairman Bill Kenwright is selling half of his 26% stake for the sum of £22.75million. By that valuation, Everton is worth £175million. He had paid a measly sum of £9million for the 26% share 16 years ago, when the club was valued at less than £35million. The £175million (nearly $250million) is lower than the previously mentioned sums of £200million in the months leading up to the takeover.

Planet Hollywood founder and American businessman Robert Earl, often accused by the fanbase of being 'missing in action', sold the entirety of his 24% holdings to Moshiri at the same current valuation of the club, making £40.25million for the minimal effort he put into running the Blues.

The remaining 12.9% of stocks will be coming from Jon Woods and another unnamed minor owner. Woods has been known to hold 19% of the club, while Lord Grantchester had 9%.

The Iranian businessman, who has British citizenship, has also promised to provide the club with a war chest of transfer funds for the summer, as well as making the construction of a new stadium his highest priority. It appears so far he has spent £87.3million on buying his share of the club, with what looks like more to come. Moshiri's net worth is reputed to be £1.36billion in 2015, per Forbes.

The 60-year-old tycoon has chosen to keep Kenwright on as chairman for now, and also retains an option to increase his holdings in the club in the future should he choose to do so. His purchase of the Toffees is expected to be ratified by the Premier League in the coming days.

Song written by late teenager to be played at Goodison on Saturday

Young Peter Fidler sadly passed away on New Year's Eve after a hard-fought battle with cancer. Everton will celebrate his memory by playing a song written by the teenager on Saturday when they play against West Ham United at Goodison Park.

The West Derby youngster was only 18, and was intensely passionate about two things – music and Everton. His parents David and Kath are looking to raise money for the charity Teenage Cancer Trust by bringing those two passions together.

One of Peter's songs, "Yesterday", will be played at Goodison during half-time on Saturday, and fans are being asked to make a donation to the cancer charity that helped during the three years of his treatment.
Dad David said:

"This means absolutely everything to us. The idea that Pete is going to be performing in front of 30-odd thousand at Goodison Park, he'll be laughing, he'll be having a blast. He's still with us, looking down and he will enjoy the day, that's for certain."

Here is the rest of the interview with David –
