New signing hasn’t trained enough to start yet

Ronald Koeman spoke to the media yesterday ahead of tomorrow’s season opener for Everton against Tottenham, and said that Romelu Lukaku and Seamus Coleman are both carrying minor niggles and the final decision to play will only be made tomorrow. Lukaku received stitches in his heel after suffering a cut in the last preseason game while Coleman has an ankle injury.

New signing Ashley Williams will not play tomorrow as he has not trained much with the Everton side, but could probably step up in case of emergency. Club captain Phil Jagielka is expected to lead the team out after recovering from a hamstring issue that kept him out of the side for the entire preseason.

For the visitors, defensive mainstay Jan Vertonghen returns to the middle of their defence after being injured in the preseason. Midfielder Moussa Dembele is suspended for this game, but otherwise Mauricio Pochettino will have his full complement of players to choose from tomorrow.
