Transfer Deadline Day August 2016 via Royal Blue Mersey

Yes it is that time of the year again, transfer deadline day. In the past this milestone has been met with tonnes of trepidation by Everton fans as we wonder which of our stars are about to abandon ship, and which bargain basement bins we will be shopping from. However, this year, with the promise of owner Farhad Moshiri’s deep pockets and a manager like Ronald Koeman who will not be bullied into panic buying, there is a good chance we come out of this day smiling.
The Premier League transfer window will close at 11:30pm BST (6:30pm EST, 3:30pm PST) tomorrow, Wednesday 31st August. Unlike previous years, there is no emergency loan window, nor a separate loans deadline day as all loan deals will need to be finalized by the end of the normal transfer window.
Everton Summary
This has been a good summer for the Everton squad as Koeman has brought in a good mix of wile, workrate and wisdom, with Yannick Bolasie (link), Idrissa Gana Gueye (link), Ashley Williams (link) and Maarten Stekelenburg (link).
Some older players in the squad have been let go with Tim Howard, Tony Hibbert, Leon Osman and Steven Pienaar sent on their way, while the Blues cashed in on defender John Stones (link). Youngsters Brendan Galloway and Luke Garbutt have been sent out on loan for more experience.
What To Expect
Koeman has said that he expects 3-4 more signings, with owner Moshiri backing him up (link). With Everton now having the funds to not have to rely on late loan deals, we can expect a couple of outright purchases.
The Toffees still need a fourth centerback, and have been linked with Kalidou Koulibaly (link), Bruno Martins Indi (link), Lamine Kone (link), Mateo Musacchio (link) and Aymen Abdennour (link). Mason Holgate has done well at the right back position with Seamus Coleman out injured, and if Koeman fails to find his center back of choice then we can expect Holgate to be his fourth man there and a right back signed. His former player at Southampton Cuco Martina has been rumoured to be close to signing for the Blues (link).
In the middle of the park, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a late surprise like Moussa Sissoko (link), William Carvalho (link) Juan Mata (link), Yacine Brahimi (link) or Rachid Ghezzal (link) come in, though premium midfielders seem to be a challenge to find this summer and clubs playing European football holding that edge over Everton. Remember when we were linked with Julian Draxler (link)?!
Finally, Koeman will definitely want to pull the trigger on getting a striker to partner and/or back-up Romelu Lukaku. The Blues have been linked with a few names over the last couple of months, with Manolo Gabbiadini (link) and Wilfried Bony (link) at the top of the list of available players.
On the exit side, besides Oumar Niasse’s on-again, off-again departure (link) it’s unlikely any more players leave, even on loan. With Muhamed Besic out long term, Koeman will want to keep a hold of James McCarthy (link). Darron Gibson could go to a lower league though should a decent offer come in.
