Everton face an immensely important FA Cup quarterfinal draw against Chelsea on Saturday. We have all the info you need to keep up with the match.

On Saturday, the Toffees face what will likely be their most important match of the 2015-2016 campaign as Chelsea travel to Merseyside for the FA Cup Quarter-Final. Everton are coming off of a deflating loss last weekend when they blew a two goal lead by giving up three goals to West Ham in the final twelve minutes of regulation.

Chelsea had been moving along well until they ran into Paris St. Germain in the Champions League Round of 16 on Wednesday. The Parisians downed the Londoners 2-1 (4-2 aggregate), knocking them out of the tournament. Their previous two Premier League matches have also given them trouble; having had to fight off Norwich in the dying minutes of their 2-1 win only to follow that up with a 1-1 draw with Stoke.

The two clubs have already faced each other twice this season. Everton took the first match 3-1 at home in September. The next match saw both clubs fight to a 3-3 draw in January, capped by a controversial John Terry goal in the 98th minute.

Overall, Everton have had another tough year in the league, currently sitting in the bottom half of the table. They had a good run in the Capital One Cup by making it to the semifinals. With a new owner likely to bring changes to the club in the coming months, Roberto Martinez may want to hope for a deep FA Cup run if he wants to be back in charge at Goodison next year.

Everton vs Chelsea: Roberto Martinez pre-match quotes via Royal Blue Mersey

Bobby says he has the backbone to deal with the pressure

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has spoken out on a range of topics ahead of the Toffees momentous quarter final tomorrow against Chelsea in the FA Cup. Both clubs remain on the periphery of the clubs in the Europa League qualification range, and desperately need the success in the Cup to salvage their respective seasons.

Martinez began by clearing up the picture on who was fit and who was not –

"Bryan Oviedo has reacted really well and we hope that he is going to be back with us Friday. We hope that he is going to have a speedy recovery.

"At the moment it is too early to tell [whether he can play against Chelsea].

"With a chest infection, we had something similar with Tom Cleverley and he missed the Aston Villa and West Ham games. Gareth Barry had something similar and he was able to play a little bit of a part against West Ham.

"Every player is different, depending how serious and how much that infection affects you.

"Aaron Lennon has been progressing well and we are going to make a decision later today whether he can be involved with the squad or not.

"Leighton Baines seems to have reacted really well and the pain has eased off in his ankle."

He went on to deny that his team was mentally fragile, ascribing the loss to West Ham last weekend to the missed penalty in the second half by Romelu Lukaku when the team led 2-0.

"It would not have happened like that if we hadn't missed a penalty. And we had been playing with 10 men for most of the game. If we had won the game we would have had an incredible boost, being a man down for so long it would have been a great achievement but the penalty affected the whole environment.

"It is not normal for a team that has conceded two goals in six games to give away three in 12 minutes. We don't react badly to conceding goals. We have lost a couple of two-goal leads this season but we have learned from that. In normal circumstances we can handle opponents pulling a goal back but against West Ham it was not normal circumstances. It was completely different."

He did admit that the Blues' desperately needed to improve their home form after yet another setback –

"I would say it's a psychological issue. The psychology is a big aspect of any team. Technically and tactically, you can see the stats, they are black and white, and we can see where we are in terms of how we are as a team and the way we play.

"You need to go further than physical, technical and tactical ability to explain why we're so consistent away from home, and so, so extreme in terms of results at home. So there is an aspect of the psychology we have to put right.

"I look at the characters in the squad, and what I have to do as a manager is make sure I give them good direction and we get through that."

Martinez added that the emphasis he's placed on blooding the youth has played its part in the debacle –

"I think it's some sort of work you have to develop within the squad.

"It's about learning from them and making sure you show there's a reaction and that it's a lesson well learned – we need to understand and learn from that pain."

Having come under intense criticism from critics and fans alike in recent times, Martinez insisted that he had the strength to deal with it –

"I've been very fortunate, I've been 10 years as a manager and seven in the Premier League and it is a real source of a strong backbone, to have the experiences we have and every situation you are in, in the Premier League, is a high pressure situation.

"I share the expectations and I am the one bringing the expectations on, it is that we need to understand those expectations because we are Everton, we are club that should be winning silverware and putting ourselves in positions to become a winning team."

A mark of his tenure at Everton has been his belief in youth and undying support for his players, staunchly refusing to criticize them even under extreme pressure –

"But it is true that there has been a big change in the personnel and it is a new generation coming through, we need to be hand-by-hand and work together to learn how to be a winning team.

"I will always defend any player who wants to be brave and give everything they've got for Everton, it is the only way we can become a winning team, when we do it together."

Everton vs Chelsea: FA Cup 2016 Quarter Final Matchday via Royal Blue Mersey

Blue on Blue action as Everton host Chelsea with a spot at Wembley on the line.

Roberto Martinez may deny it, but Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea looks increasingly like a defining moment in the Spaniard’s tenure at Goodison Park.

Victory would keep Everton’s season coughing and spluttering along for a few more weeks and may just keep the doubters at bay.

Defeat, and it would be hard to see how Martinez could continue beyond the end of the season.

Last weekend’s defeat to West Ham was so calamitous it is difficult to think of a more gut-wrenching way to lose a football match. Everton have certainly tried this season, with December’s disaster against Stoke as well as 98th minute equalisers at Bournemouth and Chelsea convincing many that Martinez’s gung-ho approach is simply to reckless to succeed.

With Everton’s Premier League season dying a slow painful death, the FA Cup run is just about keeping the campaign alive, much like the Europa League did last season.

Humiliating defeat in Kiev last March not only dumped Everton out of Europe but put their domestic failings in sharp focus. Defeat on Saturday would leave even someone as endlessly positive as Martinez with little reason to be optimistic for the rest of the season.

Everton’s last home FA Cup quarter-final saw Martinez’s Wigan side dismantle David Moyes’ side 3-0 at Goodison, a result than many see as influential in persuading Bill Kenwright to bring the Catalan to Merseyside later that summer.

In a cruel twist of fate it may well be yet another Goodison quarter-final that hastens Martinez towards the exit door.

The one reason to be optimistic? Farhad Moshiri will be present to watch his first game at Goodison Park and already brings with him a positive message about the future.

The opposition

Saturday’s game is just as important for Chelsea as it is for Everton. Wednesday’s Champions League exit at the hands of PSG all but ended the Blues’ hopes of playing in Europe’s premier completion next campaign.

It also left the FA Cup as their only hope of silverware and salvaging some glory from a desperately disappointing season for the Premier League champions.

Guus Hiddink has steadied the ship since replacing Jose Mourinho and has yet to lose in 16 domestic games in charge since taking over in December.

He also has history with Everton given he was also in interim charge of Chelsea when they beat the Toffees 2-1 at Wembley in the 2009 FA Cup final.

They do, however, have a distinctly mixed recent record at Goodison Park, with Everton’s last seven games at home to Chelsea in all competitions reading WLWLWLW.

Team news

Everton are assessing Aaron Lennon and Bryan Oviedo ahead of Saturday’s game. Lennon picked up a minor hamstring strain against West ham last Saturday while Oviedo was admitted to hospital earlier this week with a chest infection.

Gareth Barry and Tom Cleverley have also been suffering from illness but are fit to make the squad.

With Oviedo a doubt Leighton Baines could return to the starting XI after reacting positively to treatment on an ongoing ankle problem.

Chelsea could be without Diego Costa after the striker aggravated a tendon injury during the midweek defeat to PSG.

Eden Hazard was also forced off at Stamford Bridge with a hip injury and will be assessed.

Chelsea captain John Terry is also expected to miss out as he continues recovery from a hamstring injury.

The final word

For the second time this season Everton find themselves one game from Wembley with the hopes and dreams of the supporters resting on the next 90 minutes.

The mood has certainly taken a turn against Martinez this week after that West Ham defeat with even a win probably doing little to persuade a doubting public that he is the man for the job in the long-term.

It would, though, mean a day out in London and edge the Toffees closer towards ending that painful 21-year trophy doubt.

Predicted starting XI: Robles, Baines, Funes Mori, Jagielka, Coleman, Barry McCarthy, Besic, Barkley, Lennon, Lukaku.

New owner Farhad Moshiri introduces himself in matchday programme via Royal Blue Mersey

Welcome to the Blues Sir

Everton majority owner Farhad Moshiri will make his first public appearance in front of the fans at Goodison Park during tomorrow's FA Cup Quarter Final against Chelsea.

Moshiri has not made any direct statements to the public since the ratification of his deal to buy 49.9% stake in the Toffees, but the matchday programme for tomorrow's game will contain a statement from the businessman.

The text of the statement reads –

"I am delighted to join you here today at Goodison Park for my first match as a shareholder in Everton Football Club. I also felt it was fitting that my first message was in the matchday programme, with Everton being the first ever club to regularly produce one for home games. Indeed, it is this strong sense of tradition which appealed to me as I discussed the opportunity with Bill Kenwright to become part of the future of the Club.

It is a testament to the enduring quality and consistency of the Club that Everton has remained in the top flight of English football since 1954. In more recent times this has been achieved under the stewardship of Bill, Robert Elstone and all the team behind the scenes at the Club. I am here to support them as required to ensure the Club recaptures the glory days of the past and builds sustained success in the future.

I know a lot of you want to know what my plans are. There is much to be done and things for me to learn, but I can confirm I have committed to providing additional funds for transfers and retaining our key players to ensure that we have a strong core to build on for the future. We will also be looking at the best options in relation to our stadium. Goodison Park has served the Club extremely well, but we need to make sure the Club has a suitable stage to perform on for the future. We will review the best options and how to finance, especially as it is likely to cost a little more than the £3,000 it apparently did back in 1892.

Finally, and most importantly, Everton is about great football and winning matches. Good luck to Roberto and the boys against Chelsea today."

The statement should help shed some light on what the new owner's intentions will be, at least for the short term. What are your thoughts?
