Roberto Martinez confident Everton will cope with loss of Gareth Barry via everton-mad

Roberto Martinez admits Everton will miss Gareth Barry during his suspension but is optimistic his absence will not be felt too keenly.

The combative midfielder was sent off for the second time this season late on in Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final victory over Chelsea.

Barry was booked for his involvement in the fracas that saw Diego Costa receive a second yellow card and then followed suit three minutes later after fouling Cesc Fabregas.

Because it was the 35-year-old's second red of the campaign he must serve a two-match ban, ruling him out of the high-profile Premier League clashes with Arsenal and Manchester United.

Toffees boss Martinez told evertontv: "We are quite strong in every department – that's what's pleasing
We never look to have excuses for having players not available
We'll never go down that route.

"The squad is ready and players have been working really hard
It's going to be great to see what a new partnership can bring to the side

"But, clearly, Gareth Barry has been an incredible influence in the last three seasons, none more so than in this campaign, where he has been involved in every Premier League game.

"He is going to be missed but the challenge we face is can we perform in a really positive way, even when Gareth is not on the pitch? We have to rise to that."

Everton will hope to overcome Barry's absence and take their cup form into the league, where they have stuttered, particularly at home, winning just four matches all season at Goodison Park.

Everton are eyeing up young Barcelona forward Munir El Haddadi for a summer move via Royal Blue Mersey

GettyImages-489442836.0.jpg

The attacking option has seen gobs of minutes for the Catalan club this season, but he has his sights set on a more regular starting role at this point in his career.

It appears as though Everton and manager Roberto Martinez are interested in making a move for another promising, young Barcelona prospect, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Munir El Haddadi is a 20-year-old forward who saw his youth career take him from Galapagar to Santa Ana to Atletico Madrid before ending up in Barcelona back in 2011. Since then, he has appeared in 28 games for Barcelona B, scoring eight times, and has made 41 total appearances for the senior team, putting the ball in the net nine times. On top of that, he made his senior international debut with Spain back in September.

According to Barcelona's website, Munir, as he is known, "is a natural goalscorer. He's fast and reads the game brilliantly…He also has plenty of skill for the ball and always works hard for the sake of the team. He has the potential to be a huge star." So, take that for what it's worth

As it pertains to Everton, the rumors say that the young goalscorer was interested in making a loan move to Merseyside during the winter window in order to secure more regular minutes, but was denied by manager Luis Enrique. However, it appears as the Toffees are interested in revisiting talks in the coming months.

Munir is a smaller player, standing at 5-foot-9 (175 cm) and weighing just 152 pounds (69 kg). With Barca, he gets most of his time on the right wing but is capable of playing out left and up top as a lone striker as well. He prefers to use his left foot, an area lacking in Everton's attack. At the moment, Romelu Lukaku is the lone attacking option who prefers his left to his right, although Ross Barkley is essentially ambidextrous with his feet and Leighton Baines, when healthy, is always good for a couple of crosses out of the fullback position. Nonetheless, a left-footed winger would fill a void.

The quick thought is to compare Munir to Gerard Deulofeu, another Barcelona product. However, Munir has featured many more times for the Catalan club and appears to be a part of the club's near future. Deulofeu is slightly older and had fallen out of favor there. So, in all likelihood, there will only be talk of a loan deal here. No real chance at a permanent signing.

While certainly the back up to Neymar, Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez, Munir has stepped in for member's of the trio at times and performed admirably, but would appear to still need some fine tuning. In 14 league matches this season he has just three goals. His other five goals have all come in the Copa del Rey. As we can all agree, since Everton would be a step down in terms of talent, he could likely receive regular minutes in both domestic play and in Europe if the Toffees take home the FA Cup.

Everton to face Liverpool days before FA Cup semi-final via Royal Blue Mersey

Everton's hopes of a clear run-up to Wembley dashed

Everton's Merseyside derby against Liverpool at Anfield has been rescheduled for Wednesday April 20 – leaving the Toffees little time to prepare for the FA Cup semi-final that weekend.

The fixture was due to be played at the end of last month but was postponed due to Liverpool's involvement in the Capital One Cup final.

Rescheduling the fixture has proven difficult because of Everton's continued involvement in the FA Cup, Liverpool's run in the Europa League and an international break at the end of March.

Everton will now push for their FA Cup semi-final to be played on Sunday April 24th to give them an extra 24 hours to prepare.

Having such a huge fixture just days before a cup semi-final is far from ideal, though at least West Ham and Manchester United are also playing games on the same day against the other two semi-finalists.

They will not be the same intensity as a local derby though, with West Ham playing Watford and Man United hosting Crystal Palace.

Will Roberto consider making changes? David Moyes infamously fielded a weakened team at Anfield prior to a FA Cup quarter-final against Sunderland in 2012 and saw his side thrashed 3-0.

The side would draw that game against the Black Cats, though they did go on and win the replay. It would certainly be a risk though and place even greater pressure on their trip to Wembley the following weekend.

Everton's league trip to Sunderland – postponed last weekend because of the Chelsea game – will now be played in the final week of the season at the Stadium of Light on Wednesday May 11.

Everton's game away at Crystal Palace, originally scheduled for semi-final weekend, has yet to be assigned a new date.
