Well that was a nice result again on Saturday? We beat Moyes again and the customary Defoe goal against us hit the woodwork instead. Unbeaten in 9 now for the Blues, stretches back to December against them lot. How is that for a reaction from Koeman and the players?

This Sunday sees us take on the old adversaries Tottenham Hotspur. Currently second in the league, they have a faint title hope to cling to, we have a steam roller of momentum ready to flatten anyone in front of us. Could we end up 2 points behind the Kopites after being 14 behind them only a few weeks ago? It could make this season exciting again, which is always a plus when we have no cup to pray for.

Little bit of triva, Everton have recorded the most 0-0s against Spurs in the premier league era, Pochettino’s first game in England? A 0-0 against us. So throw a few quid on it ending up goalless.

Tottenham will be going into the game with an in form Kane, another hat trick at the weekend keeps the jarg lukaku in check with the goal scoring charts . They don’t really have too many injury worries ahead of the game. Lamela seems to be out, Vertonghen and Rose injured with Alderwiereld a slight doubt. Other than that they can throw out a pretty strong team against us, but so did city and look how that went for them. Danger men for them will be Eriksen and Ali, we need to have Schneiderlin and Gueye on form to deal with those two so no worries there.

As for Everton? No new injury troubles for us after Saturday’s game thankfully so looks like we will go into the game with a similar line up. I could imagine we will drop Davies for Barry or McCarthy and look to contain their attacking midfield whilst isolating Kane up front. Koeman has got it right so far recently, so have faith we can do it again.

After the league cup result, Europe has got a little bit closer for us, so the more points and the more pressure on the teams above us is what we need. 6th is Guaranteed Europe now, so we only have to overtake one of them. A win Sunday, and who knows? We all hoped United brought Europe closer to us but it is most certainly in our hands to get it now. Let us win one for the golden vison, We remember him as a legend.

And if you know, your history!

Memories of a Golden Vision via GrandOldTeam

Memories of a Golden Vision.
From: George Costigan

I could probably work out how old I was but it’s irrelevant. I was a Bolton fan and ‘they’ were coming.

Everton.

The money-bags team. If you had a good game against them – they bought you.

Bolton didn’t ever buy anything or anyone. Home grown, all of ‘em. Proper, reet?

I only remember three things about the game.

This titchy blonde centre-forward (‘ow could he wear a nine when he were a pipe-cleaner? Nat Lofthouse wore 9!), a winger called Scott (who’d cost A FORTUNE) who kept running round our Bolton-born Roy ‘Chopper’ Hartle like he was immobile – and a corner at the railway end with the score at 1-1.

The titchy centre-forward went over to Scott, and clearly asked him to play a short one.

Scott refused.

They argued.

We laughed.

The titchy number 9 then had a sizeable strop, turned his back on Scott and stormed away from him. Oh, the howls of our derision! Money-bags bollocks.

In came the corner to the near-post, and the tiny centre-forward rose, utterly unmarked, to bury his header and run, laughing, back to Scott! Smart Alex. The pair of ‘em.

A season later and Bolton were relegated and I decided standing, dripping, on the terraces, that I didn’t want to watch second division football.

Now, if you’ve grown up in Manchester and get to 15 and you are not a United fan, you CANNOT become one, because by then – you hate them.

You hate that the papers are all in love with them, that the sports pages are like extensions of the United programme, and anyway their fans were an utterly pompous nightmare (some things never change) so, I decide to hitch-hike the 28 miles down the East Lancs Road and watch the new crowned champions of England.

First day, brand new season, August, shirt-sleeves, glorious.

The bloke who gave me a lift dropped me at the end of Gwladys Street and, first time ever in Liverpool, I walked towards a place and a spec that would become like home to me.

Roy Vernon got a hat-trick, we won 4-1 but ,the titchy blonde centre-forward not only caught my eye, but he was transparently the favourite of everyone around me.

Roy-Vernon-Re-Sized.jpg

Why?

Art.

The man could play like no-one around him.

I fell in love with him, with the crowd, the craic, but most of all with a set of fans (The School of Science fans) devoted to the higher things in football – and on his night, none higher than this man.

Couple of seasons later and Sheff Wed beat us at their place and their fans were chanting, ‘Easy – easy’ at us.

They were at Goodison the following Tuesday night.

Bunked off work early – got there – got my spec and watched Fred Pickering score twice but, Alex Young score his only hat-trick.

A hat-trick of such sublime skill and artistry we were crying with joy when he thumped in his third. Joy that we’d been there… Seen it… Him.

I’ve seen Pele play, Beckenbauer, Best, Charlton etc etc – believe me – nothing beats the privilege of being a blue on the night that beautiful, beautiful man was at his peak.

JD will receive significant in-ring and ringside branding for what will be a historic year for British boxing including David Haye v Tony Bellew, Anthony Crolla v Jorge Linares II and the most anticipated bout of the year when the undefeated IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua MBE defends his world title against former heavyweight king Wladimir Klitschko.

The partnership launched ahead of Thursday’s Haye-Bellew fight press conference, in an event expected to produce fireworks from both parties. The Undisputed King of Trainers will host live events with Matchroom fighters to celebrate the partnership across the UK and Ireland. Follow JD on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for updates.

In addition, JD will play a big part in the promotion of Matchroom’s stable of Olympic fighters including Lawrence Okolie, Joe Cordina, Josh Kelly and Katie Taylor. Matchroom’s NXTGEN series will also feature heavily in the partnership, with JD showcasing future world champions and their fights live on the retailer’s channels.

Matchroom’s fighters will also feature in JD’s Undisputed show, giving viewers behind the scenes access to some of the biggest names in boxing.

The partnership was negotiated by global sports marketing agency SportQuake, who will also activate all boxing campaigns. SportQuake provides brands with a unique end to end 360 degree insight, planning, buying and full activation service. The sports marketing agency will work with JD and Matchroom Boxing to create bespoke content and campaigns, giving fans of the sport a new way to keep up-to-date with the biggest fighters in the business.

CEO and Founder of SportQuake Matt House said: “We are delighted to partner up with JD and Matchroom Boxing on a long-term basis at such an exciting time for British boxing. We love working with Eddie and his team and look forward to developing amazing campaigns together that delight fight fans.”

JD Group Marketing Director Stephen White said: “We are excited to have agreed this long-term partnership with Matchroom Boxing ahead of the biggest year for British boxing to date. What Eddie and his team have achieved over the past five years by putting boxing back centre stage in the UK has been brilliant for us at JD and all fight fans. As the undisputed leaders in our field, we love working with like-minded people. We want to build on our work together and commit to this long-term partnership to support and drive Eddie’s vision for boxing and give our customers what they want.”
