Arsenal beat Everton in race to sign Schalke’s Sead Kolasinac via The Guardian

• Highly-rated 23-year-old will arrive on a free transfer in the summer
Arsenal have beaten Everton to the signature of Schalke’s Bosnia international defender Sead Kolasinac.

The 23-year-old looked set to move to Goodison Park on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract with Schalke in June and having been in advanced talks with Everton officials. However, Arsenal have stolen in to seal a deal for the highly rated left-back after agreeing to offer the player a salary in excess of that he would have received on Merseyside.

Everton join Liverpool in banning Sun journalists over coverage via The Guardian

• News comes after Kelvin MacKenzie suspended for column on Ross Barkley
• ‘Any attack on this city, against a community or individual, is not acceptable’
Everton football club have banned the Sun from their Goodison Park stadium and Finch Farm training ground over the newspaper’s coverage of the city.

The news comes in the wake of Kelvin MacKenzie being suspended by the Sun after Merseyside police said they were investigating a column in which he compared Everton’s Ross Barkley, who is of mixed race, to a gorilla. MacKenzie, the paper’s former editor, who writes a weekly column, claimed he was not surprised that the midfielder, whose grandfather is Nigerian, was punched in a nightclub because he was similar to an animal in a zoo.
