Ronald Koeman says Aaron Lennon has full support in recovery from illness via The Guardian

• Everton manager pledges long-term backing over stress-related condition
• Koeman suggests social media adds to pressure on modern-day footballers
Ronald Koeman has said Everton will give Aaron Lennon all the time he needs to recover from a stress-related illness and insisted Premier League clubs do provide support for players with mental health problems.

The Everton winger is receiving treatment having been detained under the Mental Health Act on Sunday by police who were concerned for the 30‑year‑old’s welfare. Koeman admitted he has not encountered a situation like Lennon’s during his managerial career but believes the players of today are under greater pressure due to social media and the profile of the sport. The manager assured Lennon that Everton’s only concern is that he makes a full recovery, however long that takes.

£17m Pickford via GrandOldTeam

pickford-150x150.jpg

Everton are “increasingly confident” of tying up a £17m deal for Jordan Pickford, according to reports in the North East.

Scott Wilson, the Chief Sports Writer at The Northern Echo reports;

Koeman wants a new number one when the transfer window reopens, and has identified Pickford as his preferred option.

He is set to launch a formal approach once the season is at an end, and is confident of securing a deal for around £17m. Sunderland will be hoping to secure at least £20m for Pickford’s services, but will be mindful that their negotiating position has been weakened by their relegation.

Everton are aware they will face competition for Pickford, who has rapidly earned a reputation as the most exciting young goalkeeper in the country, but are willing to more than treble his current wages on Wearside in order to lure him to Goodison Park.

Swansea v Everton via GrandOldTeam

vsswansea-150x150.jpg

Having qualified for next campaign’s Europa League, Everton have been on the beach for the past two weeks.

The Liberty Stadium has been a happy hunting ground since the Swans’ promotion to the Premier League back in 2011.

The Blues have yet to lose a league fixture to them in Wales.

But with the Swans fighting for their Premier league lives, two points adrift of 17th place Hull, they’ll be no pushovers on Saturday evening.

Three points is a must for Swansea.

Koeman says he’s to blame if his side aren’t motivated for this clash. That’s a massive warning to his players to get the flip flops off and get those football boots back on.

The 1-1 draw at Old Trafford last weekend has buoyed the Swans. But they have injury problems.

Pacey Ecuadorian winger Jefferson Montero and Angel Rangel miss out for Swansea.

It has been nightmare season for the fans in South Wales, with three different managers at the helm.

Special mention goes to Bob Bradley, whilst being one of the worst managers to ever grace the Premier League he still managed to get a point at Goodison Park back in November.

Oh Everton, never change.

Ones to watch –

Long time Everton target Gylfi Sigurdsson is Swansea’s key man, with nine goals – one of those coming in that 1-1 draw in L4 – and twelve assists to his name this season, in what is a truly abysmal Swansea side.

It’s not hard to see why some of the biggest clubs around want the Icelandic international’s signature.

Let’s hope he stinks the place out on this audition in front of Ronald Koeman.

Target man Fernando Llorente has 12 goals to his name in his maiden season in the Premier League and could find himself, alongside Sigurdsson, one of the main reasons the Swans may survive.

Enough about them, onto what we’re all here for.

Bad news for the Toffeemen, Morgan Schneiderlin, a massive miss and factor in last week’s loss to Chelsea, is still missing.

So it’s much the same squad wise from that 3-0 drubbing off the champions elect at The Grand Old Lady.

Not our best day.

Not a match review, so enough of that.

Feeling like a common occurrence but victory will elevate Everton above Arsenal into fifth, whether that’s temporarily or set in stone is yet to be seen.

Everton are still waiting for only their second away victory in 2017.

A dismal record that is in desperate need of improvement.

But here’s to hoping improvement is just what happens and the Blues bag the three points… and Swansea are sent one step closer to the Championship.

Up The Toffees.

Coleman Signs New Five-Year Contract via GrandOldTeam

seamuscoleman2-150x150.jpg

Seamus Coleman has put pen to paper on a long-term deal, which ties him to the Blues until the summer of 2022.

The 28-year-old, who suffered a double fracture of his right leg during the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier with Wales in March, says he has been handed a ‘massive boost’ on his road to recovery.

Coleman told evertontv. “I’m delighted to get this signed. I’ve been here for a long time and it’s a special Club that means a lot to me.

“Everything had been agreed and I was due to sign it after the international break but unfortunately I got the injury. The Chairman messaged me the night of my injury and said, ‘Don’t worry about it because when you come back this contract is still waiting for you’. That sums up what the Chairman and this Club is all about.

“Farhad Moshiri also sent me cards and said the support was always going to be there. I’m delighted with how the Club has handled the situation. Knowing that I was going to come back and sign it has definitely helped things. It’s a massive boost and gives me something to fight for.

“I want to prove my worth when I come back and show the Club were right for rewarding me with this long-term contract.”
