Ronald Koeman says Chelsea’s Diego Costa would be ‘welcome’ at Everton via The Guardian

• Koeman keen to sign a striker for Everton before deadline day
• Manager admits admiration for Costa going into match at Chelsea
Ronald Koeman has said he would welcome the chance to bring Diego Costa to Everton as he reiterated his desire to sign a striker before the transfer deadline.

Costa is in exile in Brazil having refused to return to training with Chelsea and stated his intention to return to his former club Atlético Madrid. A late diversion to Goodison Park may be a remote prospect but Koeman, who wants to add experience to the Everton attack, admitted on Friday that he would be interested in the Spain international.

Chelsea close in on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and chase Ross Barkley via The Guardian

• Champions ready to take Arsenal midfielder across London for £35m
• Club to battle Spurs for Barkley and also target Danny Drinkwater
Chelsea are increasingly confident they will secure Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain from Arsenal before the closure of the transfer window and hope to speak to Everton over the potential purchase of Ross Barkley after Sunday’s meeting between the sides at Stamford Bridge.

The pair could yet be joined by another England international, Leicester City’s Danny Drinkwater, as the champions seek to satisfy Antonio Conte and bolster his senior options before Thursday night’s deadline. Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has entered the final 12 months of his contract, has been offered new terms by Arsenal but is understood to have made clear his desire to depart for a fresh challenge after six years at the club.
