David Unsworth left wondering what he’s got himself into as Everton caretaker | Sachin Nakrani via The Guardian

The sight of the away end emptying long before the final whistle was blown in the 2-0 defeat at Leicester City told its own story

David Unsworth spent the majority of this match standing on the edge of his technical area. Occasionally he instructed his players to do something, while there were other moments when he could be seen encouraging those in white and grey with a firm clap. But more often than not he simply stood there, staring forward and perhaps wondering what on earth he has got himself into.

Premier League: 10 talking points from the weekend’s action via The Guardian

Liverpool’s search for a penalty-taker goes on, Mauricio Pochettino appeared unruffled after defeat at Old Trafford and Manchester City don’t look invincible

Next Sunday, Manchester City host Arsenal at 1.30pm and Manchester United play Chelsea at 4pm; it really is amazing just how often the fixture list throws up these coincidences! And whatever happens in the first game, the pressure will be on those playing in the second, because if City win, those teams will be fighting to stay in touch; if they do not, they will be fighting to take advantage of a rare City slip. So how do Arsenal make that happen? Well, their attacking trident of Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez and Alexandre Lacazette are good enough to give any team problems, but though it took longer than anticipated for Arsène Wenger to get all its members on the pitch together, is he really brave enough or foolish enough to keep them there at the Etihad? Whatever happens against City, they will spend a fair bit of time chasing the ball, so might do better to leave Özil out, stay in the match, and then introduce his quality once home legs are tiring after what is sure to be a taxing midweek examination at Napoli. Sam Allardyce On Everton via GrandOldTeam

sam2-150x150.jpg

Sam Allardyce has admitted a club of Everton’s stature would have to be considered if he was approached.

Allardyce: “Who knows? I’d have to consider that if that phone call happens.

“There’s no point in speculating at the moment. David Unsworth is in the chair, Joe [Royle] sat upstairs will have an opinion today and probably from the Chelsea game.

“At the moment it looks like it’s going to be really tough for Everton to get out of that position. Not that the lads are not trying, but as a team collectively they can’t get a clean sheet and as a team in possession, they can’t score a goal. Those are the two problems – if you resolve one, you’ll end up resolving the other.”
