Just a question from a pretty naive native if good ole Blighty , but how much Premiership football is shown over in the states? Also how is it perceived by the American public?
None on regular, non suscription cable. ESPN is showing one maybe two matches a week but usually only one. Before they bought the Setanta leftovers, ESPN did do a passable job of showing Champions League matches and most major tournaments (Euros, Confed Cup) and their coverage seems to be increasing of late.
I get FSC (Fox Soccer Channel) which roughly costs me an extra $4 a month and they'll usually show 4-5 Premier League matches each week. They also run the Premier League Review Show Sunday nights so you can get your fill of highlights etc...
Most Americans really could care less hence if you want to watch the Premier League, you have to make some sort of effort to do it. The US National Team is rarely shown on any major network - I had to watch the US-Mexico WC Qualifier on Telemundo because I couldn't find an English language broadcast. ESPN will also shoo in a couple MLS games during the week.
Either way, there's enough Premier League being shown that my wife is had her fill. Although she did tell me as the Fulham match was winding down, that Everton would get relegated if they kept it up. On one hand, I was dismayed by her lack of confidence but on the other, quite proud that it's rubbed off enough that she knows what relegation is. I'm slowly breaking her down
