Hi all. New poster here.
I'm not an Everton fan, nor do I support Celtic (or Rangers, for). I'm Scotland fan and I watch as much SPL (I refuse to call it a fancy name like the "Premiership") as I do EPL. I'm completely neutral on this one.
Tierney was named in last seasons Champions League breakthrough team of the year, alongside Mbappe and Werner: Link
This goes for the people here (as well as fans of all EPL clubs); the people of Scotland are extremely self deprecating and self effacing. Our football fans are the world champions of putting ourselves down, so please, there's no need for the disparaging comments regards to our football, as no one is harsher on the standard of Scottish football than Scottish football fans.
Kieran Tierney is a freak of nature: he's quick, he can tackle, he can shoot, he can dribble, he has bags of energy and he can cross. He reminds me of David Alaba of Switzerland/Bayern Munich in that he can play anywhere. For Scotland he's played left back, right back and center back (part of a back three) and he's been brilliant in all three positions, maybe less so at right back, but he was still very good. Usually when a player is versatile it can hold them back, but not this lad, this lad doesn't just play well in positions where you put him In, he's brilliant. Like Alaba, I believe that Tierney will probably end up as an anchor-man.
The SPL isn't a top league, but it's not as bad as most people in England seem to think. Playing in the SPL was the making of Van Dijk, Wanyama, Forster et al. Is Scot Sinclair ripping it up in the SPL? Not really. He had one superb season but last season he was abysmal. James Maddison spent half a season in the SPL (Scoring 2 goals in 17 appearances) and generally looking quite good, and now he's being sold for £24 million. Stuart Armstrong (who is miles ahead of James Maddison) recently went from Celtic to Southampton for £7 million.
The EPL is a top league, but take away the top 5 (Spurs, Man City, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea) then it doesn't look too good. James McArthur, James McCarthy, Scot Arfield, Ryan Fraser, Charlie Adam (He did well at Blackpool) are all players that I don't particularly rate, and yet they've all held their own in the EPL. I have a feel that Armstrong will flourish, by the way.
Everton are a great club and they've always had great Scottish players like big Dunc, Andy Gray, etc, so generally people in Scotland are fond of Everton. If the Tierney did move then I'd be delighted. To be fair, this story does have teeth as Marco Silva seems to rate Scottish players, he's bought Ryan Gauld when he was Sporting Lisbon manager and he's also managed Andy Robertson. I can see this happening. If you managed to get him for £25-35 million it'll be an absolute steal, as if he gets a couple of solid seasons in the EPL under his belt he'll be worth £70+million. I have a feel that he will end up at Manchester United.
