Convinced this Philogene link is to force Newcastle’s hand in regards to the DCL/Minteh deal.

I don't think we are short post-sale of Godfrey, I think we're within the PSR threshold just marginally - but what I think is happening is:

(1) DCLs party wants a bigger wage to sign an extension, fairly reasonable for them to put that forward, contract has been on the table for over a month now and still no agreement;
(2) Everton don't want to do that, so they need to shift him this summer to maximise a return a la Iwobi;
(3) Everton also have one eye on the outcome of the interest hearing and how that could impact PSR compliance - in other words if we do fall foul in that hearing, we will be in breach of PSR again by a healthy amount;

(1) + (2) + (3): Everton can kill two birds with one stone by selling DCL pre-July. They can be prudent in respect of worst case scenario possible changes to our PSR compliance applied retrospectively - they can move on a player that they need to move on this summer anyway.

Even better, (4) - They can get a bit of cash in the door to try and take advantage of other clubs PSR perils, ie;- they can go out and sign a Minteh on a discounted value from Newcastle.

All makes sense. When it comes to the interest hearing it needs to be "hope for the best, prepare for the worst". Plus even if a DCL sale is more than we need it's less we need to do next season.

Philogene looks like a cheaper alternative to minteh

Never heard of this lad until 5 minutes ago.
Just watched a video and I'm going to be devastated *if we don't sign him.

I'm reliably informed Jayden Philogene is a good player.

Someone whose opinion on football I think is pretty good has told me a few times to watch him whenever Hull have been on.

Watched him when they played Ipswich and looked very decent.

The thing about guys like Philogene, Minteh and even Ndiaye is that they're FUN. I miss it being fun.

Wouldn't be surprised if there is some kind of release clause involved.

Seen several mentions of 16 million. Seems low for a player that Hull signed for five million 10 months ago and now are attracting interest from a lot of clubs.

Or perhaps Hull need to sell players to balance their books?

I agree, just saying in relation to some of these wingers being linked. They will need to work if they are going to play.

Just noticed Philogene used to play at Villa.

I can see they had a buy back/first option clause if they got promoted - I wonder if they have a decent sell on fee?

The can’t see it being both wingers, especially if getting Minteh means losing DCL who will then also need replacing. That’ll be a CAM, LW, RW and a ST all being bought. And that’s on top of any potential RB (that it looks as though we’re after) and also then a CB. That doesn’t even factor in a midfielder if Onana goes too.

It’s just a lot, sadly.

We’d still need a replacement centre forward and probably a central midfielder and right back. We’d be much more exciting though.
