Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

The system is unsustainable over a full season as players get run into the ground due to all the constant running they do, if we go with your way then we will end up with another winless run again at some point. You need options to allow rotation, especially around the Christmas period which is where it started to go wrong for us this season.

Its the Sean Dyche way and it shows we could be better off with say 20 players and kids rather than 23 players and kids.

Saving on 3 players could be the difference with quality in a couple of positions.

It's been great to get so few injuries this season compared to most prem teams. Man. United, Brighton, Newcastle, Chelsea have probably played about 200 back four combinations between them. Villa had three key players suffer ACLs in six months and Jacob Ramsey only played 10 games. Spurs had Maddison and Van De Ven out for two months mid season.

Dyche likes his small squad for sure but you can never get complacent as that's when you will struggle when a few players get injured at the same time.

Who plays LB last night with Myko out if Young isn't around? Godfrey was on the other side so couldn't shift him there with the other two RBs out and Garner and McNeill were playing too well in midfield to shift them to full back.

That's where having a smaller squad than this season and then picking up an injury mid game would have real drawbacks.

On balance I'd give Young another year. The problem is he's just started far too many games especially in forward areas which really shouldn't be happening but as a second half sub to protect a lead he's still decent enough as last night showed.

The key is to have players that can occupy multiple positions.

No issue with a squad of 20. Just from your analysis it seems to be a regular first 11 and then endless kids with about 10 minutes between them on the bench because Dyche hardly makes subs so that's the balance to get right.

The Danjuma of next season who warms the bench as a hit and miss creative needs to be someone Dyche actually trusts more to turn games otherwise that becomes a waste of money so that's the first thing to get right.

Im not sure where this "endless kids with 10mins between them" comes from?

Danjuma does not need replacing as on the left theres McNeil and Dobbin as backup.

So Young gets another 12 months then as he's played three positions in the last three games alone!

Ideally you'd get someone who can do that who's still in their 20s. Ben Johnson played full back and in midfield for West Ham this season so that's an interesting link with him on a free.

Why are you referencing Young? Hes clearly not good enough.

Ben Johnson looked decent when he came through. Nothing since.

Young can play three positions so that's the versatility Dyche requires as we saw last night. He'll push to Thelwell to offer him fresh terms imo.

Dobbin ironically since December 16th has played 40 minutes of prem football. Five sub cameos and Man. United away only game where he came on before 85th minute. He's a long way off being considered a credible premier league squad player.

Chermiti only has 7 sub games since December aswell. So with Warrington, Onyango, Hunt that's half of the outfield bench right there this season so stands to reason they'll be needed more next year if established first team players like Gana are released and not replaced. Same for Young.

Dobbin is not a winger Zat which is probably why, if you have ever seen him for the youngsters he is far better through the middle than out wide.

McNeil rarely misses a game so Dobbin can be the backup. Also for Doucoure either McNeil or Dobbin can move inside if needed.

Chermiti will be 3rd choice again unless we sell Beto.

Patterson will be RB or rotation.

Tyrer is coming through so may be loaned again or 3rd choice and theres Mills to be assessed as well.

So thats 5 young players in and around the squad.

We'd only need 18-20 first team ready players on top of that.

I think thats quite a good plan.

Beto wont be sold. I wouldn't be surprised if we cashed in on DCL though, if any team would buy him with his record.

Hopefully we can move Onana on so we can keep Branthwaite.

Bring in a no10 that can play the ball and add some goals and go for McTominay on loan.

If it was the current bottom 3 that went down, is there anyone you’d want to poach?

I’d take Doughty from Luton and Hamer from Sheff United. Both offer something creatively (both in the top 30 for key passes this season). And cover positions we need.

We are going to be looking properly bare bones this summer. Any purchases will need funding by sales to both Onana and Branthwaite, so we’ll need to get it right.

Harrison, Danjuma, Gomes and Dele will need replacing, and I can sense new one year deals for Gana, Coleman and Young. Probably down to a squad of about 16 players excluding the likes of Dobbin and Lonergan who barely count. Though never fear, we do have Holgate and Maupay returning. A huge summer incoming amongst the takeover drama.

We should not under any circumstances be spending more than £20m on any single player this year imo. We need bodies.
