Everton Summer 2024 Transfer Thread

Mate, I've said this to death in other other threads, but I appreciate the fact some folks can't read every post. In short: I can imagine Thelwell has been tracking him since his Eintracht Frankfurt days (possibly even Brondby) , where he demonstrated he was a competent player. It should be stressed that he only started three (3) games for Napoli under three (3) different coaches. They've just appointed Conte who obviously doesn't rate him for whatever reason, but generally speaking I get the feeling Lindstrom hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip so to speak.

Possibly. I have also seen that Conte wants to rebuild the squad. He may be wanting to shift multiple players asap and stick with a core of his favourites.

There’s got to be someone out there better than him for that price? Plus I wouldn’t pee on Chelsea if they were on fire let alone give them any more money. They take the mick as it is with all their PSR shenanigans.

Fair points, I just think the club have looked at him and like - I could be miles off - just my take.

I think the club look at players like this and say who can we make 20 mill + on if we can develop them over two - three years. It’s been the strategy with Richarlison and Onana when the club invests good money, they want it back with profit. The question is how good those investments are!

Gnonto if he comes is that this year for me, part of a two - three year plan. If a senior centre forward is sold I think they’ll do the same with Broja!

Do you not think that the new Roma strategy of signing and developing young players is to improve their squad long term? I dont see them adopting this strategy of signing & selling top young players.

Surely that will be the same with us?

I know Villa have been getting a lot of praise. I think they have a great manager and largely have recruited well. But when you let an academy product walk only to buy him a year later seems very early Moshiri-esque. That said in a vacuum the fee seems reasonable, he has true star quality, but Villa seem to be moving a bit hasty with money and it reminds me a bit of our spending days. I think they've had a lot more sense let alone success to be sure and have in place a great gaffer but the process to which they are arriving at a good squad leaves me a bit doubtful on the sustainability.

Of course a bit bitter as well on missing out on this one. I frankly question it on the players end. Yes they have Europe to stretch opportunities but Philogene I think would have been wise to get the assurance of games every week with the same league competition in his current development.

Think one of the reasons Villa have gone for him is that they had a sell on clause included in the deal plus a clause that Hull had to inform them if any bid had been accepted + had to accept a bid of the same value from Villa if they chose to put one in, so they pay £18m for him and recuperate £5m of that so only really lose £13m - good for their registration in Europe as he's club academy player.

Do agree with you though, it's one you look at and wonder if he'll get as much game time there compared to us or Ipswich.

This is just totally bizarre.
I think it makes sense if Everyone were after the player but lost our to Inter, then it's logical we try to bring him in on loan. If we manage to get him on loan then maybe in a year we can try and sign him permanently if he does well. Don't really see the issue. I get people want players on permanent signings but this frees up our funds to be used elsewhere where the selling market is more fruitful than the loan market
