I know this will be controversial to some on here, but we need to start signing young prospects, some for significant fees, to play in the u21s (I think the u23s are now defunct, right?) fully in the knowledge that a fair number of them won't make it. We should also use the u21s to drill our players in the first team system and not give two poos if that means the u21s finish 7th in an 8 team league. Who cares if we win these reserve leagues? Nobody. Use them for what they are designed for, player development.

I mean we already do that, kind of.

We paid a lot for Lewis Gibson, Dom, Branflakes.

But look at that.

Onana was bought for 5m last Summer, this Summer they are selling for 35m.

THATS what we really need to start doing.
What's wrong with the way we currently do it? Buy for between 25m-50m then give away to anyone who has a couple of Mars bars plus some picked onion space raiders?

We have spent an absolute fortune on a world wide network of scouts and the end result has been James Tarkowski. We are not good at scouting up and coming talent. Our priorities are skewed.

We’re not in the position to throw an up and coming kid in that defence. If they were good enough to transform it then it doesn’t matter what scouting team we have, we ain’t beating the top clubs to them. We did it with Stones but even as good as he now is, I don’t think a 19 year old Stones is what this defence needs right now.

Just as Leicester needed Jonny Evans and then Fofana could slot next to him, we desperately needed a senior CB who could stay fit and organise that back line. Tarkowski does that. So now we can either get a bit more out of Mina next to him, try whichever of Godfrey Holgate Branthwaite works best with him, or if we bring in a younger CB they’re playing next to a decent player rather than a train wreck like Michael Keane

The Tarkowski deal was not a bad one at all.
