Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

Means absolutely nothing. Barkley couldn't get a game for Sheffield Wednesday, Harry Kane useless at Millwall. Gilmour is better than anything we have, kid can keep possession, apart from his mother's choice of the team she supports I'm all for it.

Funniest thing I have read for a while

Tom Davies is better than Gilmour in front of the back four and I would never want to see that again

Hopefully everyone is getting him mixed up with the lad on loan at Palace

Gallagher will get a proper chance at Chelsea next season so Frank would have to pull some strings to get him.

Gilmour no good at Norwich and another midget? So no no.

Opinions and all that, but despite his struggles this season I think Gilmour is one of the best prospects I've seen in recent years.

If Lampard is going to transition us to playing out from the back through midfield much more next season, we'll need players who can do it and he's tremendous at it. We would 100% need another centre mid too with more physical presence though, I absolutely accept that

I think given the Lampard links - he gave Gilmour his debut and played him a fair bit - and Gilmour's contract status, he's one that seems plausible

Agreed , but that’s like saying I would rather be locked in a cage withh to a hungry tiger rather than a hungry lion.

I would rather sign good young players and develop them, and have some sort of actual recruitment policy rather than just signing whoever becomes available and convincing them to sign by offering massive contracts.

Players in the lookman mould , he was not a success on the pitch for us but we still made money, same with Vlasic, DCL will be the same. Players that have work rate and technical skill, footballing intelligence etc. not just whoever looked the least crap in the team that just went down or narrowly survived.

I’m not interested in players like sarr, McNeil , denis etc if we are buying lower level players explore the championship but I would be looking at nobody over the age of 25 unless someone exceptional is keen to join ( which I think we can agree is not likely)

We need a sustainable business model and something that allows frank to mould players into what he wants and sell the ones he can’t, but not taking huge financial hits when he does
I don't subscribe to the whole 'we need to buy x players from x specific type of team'

We just need good recruitment and not pigeonhole our process or put certain players off our list based on were they are at

I know they have not been great this season but you would probably name Leicester as having the best recruitment over the past 3-4 years.
But you have a varying type of player history from alot of there signings

Ihanacho - Young prospect signed from a big club in Man City
Maddison - Young prospect signed from a Championship club
Evans - Experienced player who has played for big clubs but somewhat lost his way
Justin - Relative unkown but potential at a club between Championship & League 1
Tielimans - Young European star, who's original big move (Monaco) didnt really work out, signed on loan first
Forfana - French youth international signed from mid level french side
Perez - Good but not spectacular player who had already played 3-4 years in the PL from a mid level club/similar size
Perrira - Late developer signed from a lesser European league (Porto)

There is no big pattern with those signings (I'd say most apart from Evans are under 25 but they don't stick to strictly under 25) but there are some players from big clubs, some from similar clubs, some from European clubs and some from lesser clubs in the same country.

I havent obviously put every signing they have made over the years in there, just a few off the top of my head

Hallaelujah. Couldn't agree more with this, good players who fit into what we're trying to do are good signings, it's that simple. Whether they come from City, Barcelona, Stoke or Burton is completely irrelevant.

I think DCL time at Everton is done, use the money to sign some CB and CM because those areas need major work. We will also get a lot of duds off our wage bill this year.
I will be sad the day he leaves us but I reckon it will be more likely that Richy goes.

Also, it might be a strange couple of windows coming due to the world cup being in Nov/Dec this year. There will no doubt be a flurry of bids in the Jan window off the back of performances.

Would be good to get a dominant DM who can add some height in both boxes but also dictate play from deep.

A bit like what Gbamin should have been. Delph just doing average DM type things has made a massive difference to our solidity in recent games.

Don't think anyone is mixing them up, they are 2 completely different players, Gallagher is more of a box to box type who is always looking to push on (the type of player Doucoure really should be) and Gilmour is more of a deep lying playmaker type who can get stuck in but is also able to pass it forward and start attacking moves. Tom Davies should be no more than a squad player, at a push.

Good point about the World Cup effecting the transfer windows. We are all expecting a revolutionary window for us this summer but it might be a quieter window than people expect in general with the WC coming up.

Clubs might not want to sign players who might be distracted in the first few months of the season, and if you have a player likely to feature (eg Richarlison or Pickford) you might want to hold off selling until he’s been in the shop window- we all know prices can be inflated for players who star in a WC.

Probably doesn’t effect most of our likely ins / outs but in terms of bigger money transfers around the world the January window might be busier than usual and it might be worth holding onto the likes of Richy or Pickford til then at the earliest.

Grillitsch on a free makes so much sense imo. Talented footballer, loves to pass it about but played loads as a centre back this season so he has got that side to his game too.
