Everton Summer Transfer Thread - 2022

If we go down, then that’s a different discussion.

But my question to you is, these accounts were signed off last October, Everton and the premier league have been in discussions for a few years Everton would have been well aware off what these accounts were going to look like last summer, so why wasn’t there a fire sale last summer?

We spent hardly anything, but wages dropped from, James, Bernard, Bolasie and Walcott going. We would have made money in January selling Digne, the way transfers work and another high wage gone.

I’m not an accountant, but I’d this years accounts will look better than last year, because of wages dropping and no really big transfers. But apparently we now need to have the fire sale and spend less the the 1.7mil we did last summer.

The squad needs an overhaul, we don’t need the replace like for like numbers wise and I’d like to see a few big players leave so we can refresh the squad and have a reset, but if we do sell some big players we will spend money on replacing them.

Add in Toshun, Siggurdsson, Delph and Kenny off the books come this summer when their contracts expire and potential moves away for Gbamin/Mina/Allan I think we're in for a massive rebuild this summer and next.

I imagine one of DCL or Richarlison will be sacrificed for a big fee to enable us to do it but bring it on be exciting to see who the new DOF & Lampard bring in.

Not that we wish to find it out but there will be none more key than this new DOF this summer, strategising for if we end up in either league and how he will reshape the squad to cope accordingly.

If he does have anything about him then hoping he can find buyers for so many expensive failures in the current Everton squad, signed by 8/9 different managers. Mostly I hope he’s the first DOF we’ve ever had who understands the importance of player character for anyone we’re looking to bring in. Should be a priority to stop the six year rot and get a connection with the fans again.
Things must be truly bleak if you're writing earnest messages about the state of the club

Shut up you tranfer virgin

We had a negative net spend last summer. Bernard and James went for a few million each and we did save some wages. We also got a small loan fee for Kean. However, I know from a contact that the club was really panicking last summer and we probably would have sold others if appropriate bids had come in. One of the biggest problems we have is that many of the players we want to shift are on large salaries and refuse to move. They run their contracts down.

We have mind boggling losses over the last three years that will require much greater belt tightening than we have done already. If we stay in the league, I expect DCL and Richarlison to leave. If we get relegated, I expect Pickford Allan, Doucoure and a few others to join them.
Well if they were panicking, im
Sure they could have shifted DCL on the back of his 20 goals.

And With Amortisation Costs we could still spend a fair bit on what we bring in. And I expect the wage bill to be a lot lower than 182 when we get to BMD in 2 yrs

If Sigurdsson, Delph, Kenny and Tosun all leave in the summer amortisation costs will be 20M lower and wages down to about 140M... more or less.

I haven’t watched the 23’s for probably 6 weeks and when I was watching them Hughes wasn’t always in the team, he’s also one of the older ones in the group he will be 21 at the start of next season and I’m not sure he’s even trained with the first team that much.

This is like the 2nd youngest group in the league with a number of players, playing their first season at this level. The likes of welch, price, warrington before his loan, mills, Onyango, Dobbin. All like 17/18 when the season started.
When I've watched the u23's Charlie Whitaker has looked the stand out player, been injured a while and the results seemed to turn since he went out. Has decent pace, technique and vision, wouldn't surprise me if he was training with the first team shortly.

And to go from a 120M loss.... lets say that 15M revenue is lost from USM next season...

Wages are already cut by 40M, amortisation by 20M, lets say the sale of Kean is fast tracked as rumoured- thats 20M profit on that deal. Losses are then (120M+15M) - 80M... that leaves you at 55M losses. Add back in 15M gate receipts that we didnt receive and we are at a 40M loss... A lot more tolerable...

...all of this is a realistic and likely scenario.

If we then sell one of the forwards for 60M or so it gives us a comfortable margin to go and reinvest in 2 or 3 players... whilst we wait for the contracts of the big earners to expire. Gbamin (9M annual cost until 2024), Gomes (11M- 2024), Mina (12M- 2023), Iwobi (10M-2024), Allan (13M- 2023).

Obviously if you sell two of the big players- Pickford, Richarlison, DCL you can afford to go back and spend 100M on the squad.

Amortisation is used as a magic bullet for cranking up debt. No matter what clever accountants do, creditors have to be paid.

The way it is imagined, selljj in by a 20m player lets you spend 60m. That only works if you don’t have other debts to service.

Everton need to be put on a sensible financial footing. At the moment we’re like a losing gambler betting more and more to recover the losses.

When the losses exceed £360m, something has to be done or at some point we will cease to exist.

It pains me to say it but I think Kenny will get a new contract either becasue we'll be in the Championship or he will have helped keep us up. the rest have to go - simple. If things dont shape up I could see Dele finding a new home. Obviously DVB and ElGhazi will return to their parents. Gbamin will likely also go but I cannot see us selling any midfielders - look how much we are suffering from Allan's suspension. If we sell CB's I'd like it not to be Mina unless we drop in which case he will be out of here like a rat up a drainpipe. One of the two goalscorers (using the term lightly here) will likely be sacrificed. Radical in some ways but I could see our first XI looking more like this next year:

Pickford
Patterson, Mina, Godfrey, Mykolenko
Doucoure, Another DM, Allan
Gordon, DCL, Grey

Subs From: Begovic, Iwobi, Townsend, Branthwaite, Holgate, Dobbin, Gomes, Warrington, Davies, Simms, Kenny, Onyango

I think there is enough width there from the FB's and wingers to allow a midfield 3 to be fairly compact. Adding another DM is essential. Davies will be back (ho hum) and it should be make or break time for some of the youngsters (Warrington, Simms, Dobbin, Onyango, Branthwaite, etc)

Magic bullet ?
You’re lunatic

Let’s see what happens in the summer.

Obviously there will be some mistakes here.. but its not too far away- you can see there will be a big change in terms of our finances when comparing the 20/21 season and our position in the summer when certain players´ contracts have expired, particularly if Kean leaves this summer.

Its difficult to know how the significant impairment charges in both 20/21 and 19/20 ( £15.3 million & £26.3 million) have altered the amortisation landscape
A major issue will be the significant reduction in Broadcast revenue for the current year. On the face of it if 17th place is achieved by my calculations will be some £36 .5 million less than in 20/21 ( £23.5 million delayed 20/21 games played in the 21/22 accounting year and also the difference between finishing 10th and 17th is some £13 million)
With supporters attending the other operating costs will grow by around £7.7 million.
Before anyone can even get close to thinking about the 2022/3 accounting year the numbers for the current trading year / season have got to be published and they almost certainly are going to be grim
