Everton Summer transfers 2021

Gets robbed in dangerous areas too often and too easily for me.

Well he does it less than our other midfielders and actually shows for the ball off our defence. Like I said I think we need better but of our current options - Gbamin aside because we can't assess him just yet - he's the one who's show he's more suited to that role. Of course, in a 4-2-3-1 or 4-4-2 that role doesn't exist.

@MACCA75

So had a quick look, comparing Davies to our other midfielders from last season.

He lost possession (this obviously includes passes going astray) 173 times in 25 league games.

Allan was at 218 from 24, Gomes 235 from 28, Doucoure 289 from 29 and Delph below at 36 from 8 and Gbamin 5 from 1.

Averaged out per 90, that's 10.92. That's less than all of our other central mids bar Doucoure, who perhaps surprisingly was at 10.61.

I think he keeps hold of the ball pretty well though yes, he's often not progressive enough with it in terms of carrying the ball, but that's the issue with our entire team.

Interesting and surprising

I guess what those stats don't tell us are the areas in which they lost the ball ie what jeopardy was caused or the the difficulty of the pass that was intercepted.

Interesting and surprising

Tbh it backs up what I thought - he doesn't really give the ball away a lot, or at least not a lot compared to the other midfielders we have.

I can think of once or twice he got robbed of possession last year off the top of my head (Burnley game he did didn't he when they scored, or was that Villa?). I mean I know it will have happened more than that, but generally he keeps hold of it well. He also won 26 fouls, which was the second-highest of our CMs after Allan (30).

I'm not saying it's enough, but he's more than capable of being a very useful squad member for us and one of CA's issue at the end of the season was randomly dropping him when he was in form and leaving us badly exposed in midfield.

Yeah, possession won is more often like nipping onto a loose touch rather than an interception or tackle.

I can get data for those thirds, just not the losing the ball thirds.

It just tells us he's very safe in his passing.

But in that regard it's kind of what you need as just a disciplined holding midfielder. I think that's what can help get the best out of Allan and Doucoure but I also wouldn't be starting him in every game either.

It also doesn't strictly, that would be possessional passes, and he wasn't ranking near the highest in that regard.

I see enough to know Davies is not good enough to claim a start.

Broadhead gone to Sunderland on loan. I don't know enough about our youth but my mate (a mackem) is asking if he is any good?
