Hours to go before the window closes with no RB brought in for the 4th consecutive year.

Ladies and gents, YOUR Marcel Brands!
It takes real effort and skill that. I mean, given that we’ve signed 20-30 players in this time, including youth etc, statistically speaking at least a couple would have some talent at that position. But MB has made sure that hasn’t happened.

Once Brands heard that we needed an "RB" his dispatched our crack negotiating team to some "local mediatories" to see if they would in fact sanction a loan for a Mr. Ross Barkley and allow him back inside city limits. No updates as of yet .....watch this space !

There are plenty of other clubs in the same boat. They rely on young players sometimes to cover certain squad positions. Part of their development is being thrown into games. It happens all the time. They aren't premier standard players but they are still played when they have to. Everton don't do that. They play people out of position and have done for about 6 years now. We are sending young players out on loan when we do not have cover in the squad.
I get that, but we are trying to get into Europe. It is a risk that the managers don’t seem to take. They are judged on results and last about 18months with us. In that climate there is absolutely no incentive to develop youngsters.

Clubs in European competition have more opportunity to use youngsters. It’s something David Moyes did very effectively when he was here. With us not being in Europe our opportunities are limited to the cups and however long we managed to survive in them.

The other aspect is that I don’t think we have developed many youngsters that are any good. Gordon possibly, but he looked a bit out of his depth. Branthwaite needs more experience before he can be a regular starter. Smalling might’ve made the grade, but he left. Simms has only played in division one so still a lot for him to prove.

The one we persevered with was Dominic Calvert Lewin. Look at the abuse the club has had for sticking with him, it’s back to what Arsène Wenger said, playing youngsters means you get less points.
