Seemes like a jib at Brands, and it may not be, but if it is.
Ask yourself would you pay a decent fee for any of them? I wouldn't give up a pack of jammy dodgers for Siggurdsson or Delph.
It’s always an odd criticism of Brands. He literally can’t sell players for below their book value even if he wanted to as it crystallises our losses which go straight into the negative column for FFP and means less money for our transfer fund. That’s why we see so many loans, it’s getting players off the wage bill whilst their contracts run down, then when their market value is higher than their book value they can be sold and we’ve got the profit for FFP and also saved on wages during this period.
The likes of Bolasie is a prime example. If we pay 30 mill for him on a 5 year deal, will someone give us more than 18 mill after two years with us which he’s spent injured with an ACL? Will they give us 12 mill after 3 years? What about 6 mill after 4? Maybe, but even then the clubs who might be interested in an over 30 player who has lost his pace due to injury and hasn’t played properly in years like Boro for example probably don’t have over 6 million to give us. Therefore we end up keeping him out on loan until his contract expires meaning we keep his wages off the book and we don’t record an FFP loss.
It’s all Brand’s fault though for not just selling players better.
