That midfield would get ripped to pieces.Would love to see Rooney back. Would be perfect in Rhino's 4-1-4-1 system. Barry; Deulofeu-Rooney-Barkley-Mirallas; Lukaku.
I've never seen him play in my life and I know he plays for the dreaded Wigan, but can someone ask Mourinho to sign Will Gregg for the best chant going in football at the moment please?
Well, Barkley needs to be teached to defend a little bit. And Rooney is nowdays better in defensive part of play than in offensive. I could see Rooney playing yesterday's McCarthy role. Why do you think it would get ripped? That midfield would get ripped to pieces.
If you play Rooney it must be at the expense of Barkley

That is simply outstanding
Few like I'm quoting a lot of your posts at the moment - not intentional.Neither wide players track back.
Barry is , sadly , immobile nowadays.
Neither Rooney or Barkley follow a runner and lack discipline to play in central midfield.
You get the best out of either Barkley or Rooney by playing them off a striker

But on Barry- people always say he's immobile but almost every game he covers more ground than any other player on the team.
Barkley will be in my opinion. He's carrying too much weight at the moment, but doubt a new manager will be as lax on the fitness training as Martinez seems to have been. You are correct.
He is not immobile , bad of word choice by me. He has been a wonderful player but his powers , naturally , are diminishing with age.
He is one paced which unfortuntely is not quick.
That makes it vey difficut to now play him in a central midfield pairing. You can get the best out of him if you play with central pace either side of him as we did yesterday.
Barkley is not the athlete that he should be and Rooney can no longer get around the pitch well enough to make him effective.

Rooney I'd sort of agree on. Though I do think a big part of his low energy performances are down to him losing motivation at Utd as much as they are down to the effects of age. Suspect you'd see a very different Rooney if he came back.
Look at his 30mins in Duncan's testimonial. I haven't seen him put that much effort and intensity into a game in about 3 years. Looked like he was desperate to make an impact, and it was only a friendly!!
Hasn't Rooney been getting played in centre mid by LVG recently and loking very good their as well?
Was excellent against us I thought.
