Facts of the matter is this.

Is he past his best? Yes.
But are we a side that expects to be winning the CL and league next year? No.

Would he want massive wages? Yes.
Would his wages be too much for us, especially now considering that Osman and Pienaar are gone? No.

Would he be a better option than the likes of Osman, Gibson or McCarthy? Yes.
Are any world class, in their prime CMs going to want to sign for us THIS summer? No.

Could he be a massive influence on younger players like Besic, Davies and Barkley? Yes.
Will he be frequently played in the wrong types of games and out of position like Eto'o was by Martinez. No, probably not.

For a few million it would be a great short-term signing. Let's say he was here for 2 seasons, in that time we expect the club to change massively from we've all been used too for years. He's a great player to have DURING the transition.

When you put it like that i'm sold tbf...

Also nice avatar

Guy who should have been a Ballon d'Or winner few years ago for 5m? Why the heck not. As someone said, he's past his best and should definitely not be our biggest signing this year, but he's not 38 or something, lad just turned 32, give him a 2yr contract and that's it.

At the end of the day, if we manage to get him and Mata, he can be our supersub.

Good points, I like the cut of your jib.
